so, ignoring all the people that say it doesn't matter, I am actually going to answer your question:
There is not "right or wrong" way how to pray. THe purpose of it is to grow closer to God. You don't grow closer to your friends by not talking to them! And that is the same with God. It's great that you thank Him, that is important. And itis okay to ask God for things, thugh he will not always answer in the way you are expecting.
The real quesion is not "how". There are no requirements as to how, aside from the Lords Prayer. The main thing is...
1) Ask for forgivness.
2) you are growing in your relationship with God! It's about becoming friends with God- tell him whatever is on your mind.
3) Don't just pray when you are in church, or when you are in a bind, or at night when you go to sleep. Pray all the time! You are not goin to grow ina relationship with somebody if you talk to them for fiveminutes once a day, asking the same thing.

Sure. Praying to God is more or less having a conversation with him. Most people don't do it that way, however. Most think it's just a one way conversation with you doing all the talking, and of course it's often more you doing the talking than him. But he participates too if you are earnest about it and have spent enough time with him to know him. That's the best part of praying. The people who just think its a one-sided conversation sometime have formulas for how to go about it. If that's what you want to do, do it that way, but I've done both and really prefer the way you're doing it.

Ok first you enter into his courts with thanksgivings, pray for forgiveness, pray for his people, pray for your pastorial staff and then go from there. Good things to pray for are wisdom and knowledge, the heart of david, the spirit of joseph and the knowledge of solomon also pray for the armor of God. You can listen to some christian music before you start to pray to usher you into his presence

The Lords prayer is an example of how to pray. It was given to the apostles b4 the cross incident happened so that part about being forgiven as we forgive is now not accurate yet forgiving is a good practice not anylonger determined by us forgiving yet being forgiving is good so what I would suggest is u change that line to help me to forgive those who have done me wrong and in the place of daily bread one might be more specific about those things they consider necessary like say perhaps health, steer clear of praying for patience (you get to practice), Wisdom (learned through trials) mercy (u will get caught) and areas such as this as it is not a good idea to pray for things we do not totally understand. Reading scripture can give u some better ideas about prayer, and is a good way to get to know the author.

There really is not any one right or wrong way to pray.
Despite what many different people may tell you,
they're only saying what works for them.
It can be useful to know & try what works for others.
But follow your own instincts & experience.
We're all uniquely made with different personalities.
One formula goes by the acronym "PITS":
Praise, Intercession, Thanksgiving, & Supplication.
Praise is usually just short ejaculatory phrases.
Intercession is asking for the needs of others first.
Thanksgiving is for past, present, & future, gifts/answers.
Supplication means humble requests for your own needs.
But don't forget that listening is an important part too.

I don't think there is any certain order you have to pray in. I think you should thank God but I dont know if you necessarily have to do it in an order. Its you talking to God and God talking to you. Thats all that matters.

Hon, that's the best way. God just wants us to come to him with an open, loving heart. The only thing I would implore you to do differently sometime is just thank God for His blessings and leave it at that. God wants to bless us with the things we desire, but He isn't a spiritual atm machine. So, every once in awhile, try just thanking God for His blessings, for keeping yourself and your loved ones safe, etc. - and just leave it at that. God already knows what we want anyway, so we really don't even have to ask.
You're on the right track though. Wishing you blessings on your spiritual journey. : )

Being simple and conversational is very good. Putting Him first by giving thanks first is also very good.
I had not heard of this PITS acronym before.... interesting.
The acronym I learned is ACTS. Adoration, which is the same as praise. Confession... of one's own sins. Thanksgiving. Supplication, asking for your prayer requests to be granted.
Either way, God, in His greatness, should be first, then your needs. I have also learned in tough times to make sure that you offer praise first in prayer.
