The most common reason for a slow computer is spyware, it is much more common to have spyware these days than a virus but I do suggest you scan for both.
You shoudl start by downloading AVG Anti-Virus, a free AV software that is available at www.grisoft.com. Download and install AVG, update your virus definitions and scan. Remove any viruses.
After this you can download and intall bother Spybot (www.safer-networking.org) and AdAware (www.lavasoft.com). Don't run these programs together as they do conflict with each other, but running them separately will work. Make sure to update the definitions for both of these programs before scanning.
If your computer is still running slowly you can reboot into safe mode by pressing f8 repeatedly during the start up process. Sometimes viruses and spyware hide themselves by running special programs in your processes that hide the virus from any AV and AS programs. By booting into safe mode you're making sure that these processes don't start so you can scan safely.

i suggest getting AVG. It does not use alot of memory and it is very up to date with the latest viruses. I also recommend scanning your computer for spyware with Adaware and possibly Spybot.

best free virus scan will not help your computer faster , it's just kill virus if it had in your computer

Hi There
u mentioned ur system is slow....remove all unwanted stuffs from it....den defragment all ur HD drives one by 1.....clean ur registry by using ny registry cleaning softwre and then install Kaspersky Internet security the best anti virus availabel...u can download it from ny warez sites ......ull get around 3 years subscription ........dats it ur problem is solved ....hurray !!!!

I use this version. It's not rated as good as the software that you subscribe to, but if you are smart about what you download and which emails you open, it should be fine.

avg free will get rid of the viruses and spybot search and destroy will get rid of the spyware and trojans. they are both free and you can download them from www.downloads.com
