Couple of reasons. Let's face it. We can say what we want about our own families, but if someone else attacks them, that's another story. He said that too much has been said about her in the media and on the Internet. As he pointed out, she was "married to (his) daddy" and it's a sure bet Senior would be furious if he were here. Look back at some old interviews with Senior and see how he talks about Teresa. He obviously loved her very much and once said that the only thing he was afraid of letting her down.

Junior also mentioned that he was very concerned about the effect on Taylor, who hears more of the stuff than Teresa and is more affected at her age (and it is her mother, after all).

Very class move on Junior's part. It shows his true self. He could easily have become a spoiled-rotten, selfish celebrity party-boy, but he didn't.

Jr fans are dedicated fans. I think it was best that he did that before she got pelted with beer cans. Not only that but the safety of the next driver of the 8 car also. I don't think Jr realizes the power of his statements. His comments may seem little to him but they are big to his fans. This all of a sudden announcement of team changes caught the nation by surprise. With Jr having the largest fan base he will have more response from the crowd. I think he realized that and decided it was the smart thing to do.

One thing everybody seems to forget is that Jr. is not Dale, Sr.'s youngest child, he has daughter named Taylor with Teresa. Taylor is Dale, Jr's sister, and he has to maintain family relations for her sake at the very least.
Add in the fact that DEI is a multi-million dollar business, and I'm sure it is very important to try to retain a good business relationship as well. The stress is relieved by Dale not having to worry about his future as a DEI driver.

I believe that he is defending her for a couple reasons. First reason is because of his sister Taylor. He had a point, why should she hear those things about her mom, even if they are some what true. And second, she is right except for morally. Her moral beliefs are wrong but legally she has done everything correct. She does need to get her morals straight but just think about it. Jr is better off now anyway.

The simple answer is his father raised him to respect and value family most no matter what. That is the big difference between Dale Jr and Theresa. He is setting a good example for his younger sister about family values and what really matters in life. His father, I am quite sure is very proud of his actions and is smiling down upon him.

I don't think he's defending Teresa at all. He even stated they don't see things the same.
He is defending his little sister Taylor, and he's right, she doens't need to see all the hateful things said about Teresa, that is her mother.

And, obvioulsy he loved his dad and this is dads wife, he had no choice in that matter. Even though they don't see eye to eye on the business end, he's looking out for his family.
It doesn't matter who you are, when someone bashes someone close to you, you don't like it, especially when it involves hurting innocent members of your family.

I don't care for Teresa myself, but I give kudo's to Jr for stating his mind on the matter.

Poor Taylor, she doesn't need all this.

Good Public Relations. Sponsors don't want a spokesman with an attitude especially against a family member.

He's probably feeling the heat with so many of his so-called fans ragging on Dale's dearly beloved widow, he needs to get them toned down. I'm glad he is trying to talk some sense into The Red Army.
