Im turning 16,

and Im 5,2. I want to body build, like work out at a gym, but I heard a few people telling me its not a good idea to body build as I wont grow taller anymore.

I just want to know if this is scientificly true, or this is a just a myth. Does bodybulding, working out etc has got to do anything with growing tall...

there is not one piece of scientific evidence that supports statements that resistance training stunts the growth of the human skeletal system. this is probably the single most inaccurate piece of information spread in regards to weight training.

be very careful where you get your information from in regards to fitness and nutrition. the majority of people give information based on their opinion and not information based on scientific facts

Body building does not get in your way of growing. It will help you instead. If you are still within the growing age then perhaps you can add a few inches by eating a balanced diet and leading an active life. A nutritious diet that includes fruits and vegetables, dairy, cereals, meat, and plenty of water will aid the natural process for enhancing height. A good and proper night’s sleep is also essential for the growth process. Taking part in active sports along with some stretching exercises can have a cumulative effect on human growth. There is not much we can do to grow taller after puberty. There are many products in the market today that claim to increase height of adults, but they are all scams without sufficient scientific evidence. Surgical options, though available, are EXTREMELY RISKY and of course expensive. This leaves us with basically two options.

1. Stretching Exercises: - These exercises will help you improve your posture. You’ll be surprised that how much of “Height” is hidden behind your slouched back. I know that in large breed dogs, you're supposed to limit their exercise so that they have calories for growing. It makes sense that if you work out a ton and do not have a properly raised calorie and vitamin intake that your growth will be stunted. Your body will use all of it's resources to take care of the more immediate need of day-to-day things- like your working out.
