The Bible is a history book about God's saving acts to restore humanity to his friendship. It is also still best book morality and ethics. If you want to get something from the Bible you must read in the same level it was written - spiritual.

Do you really want to know if the Bible is the word of God? Here is a time-tested method for uncovering the mystery of the Word of God: "the child of God (that's me) takes the Word of God (the Scriptures) into the presence of God (prayer) and lets the Holy Spirit of God (the Author) make that Word come to life for me and, more importantly, in me."

Another advice: if you want to prove to yourself or anyone else that the Bible is the Word of God, then I suggest you put the teaching of Jesus on forgiveness into practice. Forgive everyone, especially the people who have hurt you the most. If you find it difficult to forgive, ask God to help you forgive them. Pray for this every day, for weeks, even months until you can honestly say to yourself that you have forgiven them. Forgive also yourself - for the things you did and did not do. I guarantee you a miracle will happen in your life. If there is no miracle, come back to me and say the Bible is not the Word of God. I will believe you.

The Bible can teach is about the Plan of Salvation that God setup so that we can be like Him and be truly happy. But, the sad thing is that when the writings came directly from the authors (like Matthew, Paul, Peter, etc...) it was perfect until it got into the hands of imperfect men that would copy their writings until things were changed and missed and added. Some of the people that copied these writings were illiterate. Any scholar can verify this. There's also missing writings that we should have as well that some of these Great authors referrence, but are not in the Bible. The Bible is a collection of records. The Roman Catholic Church picked out the records that should be in the Bible. They still have many records that probably should have been included as well, but wasn't. That's why there's such a need for more records and witnesses of Christ. The Dead Sea Scrolls are supposed to have alot of the same records as well as additional writings and records that are not in the Bible. Are these records that we should examine and pray about to see if they're God's words or man's? God spoke not only to the people in Jerusalem. There were 12 Tribes of Israel, not just one - the Jews (most from the Tribe of Judah). And it's from the Jews that we received the Bible. There were prophets among all Tribes. And where are their records and writings? In John 10:14-16, Jesus said that He has other sheep which are not of "this fold", referring to those in Jerusalem, and they He must bring and they shall hear His voice and there shall be one fold and one shepherd. There is history of a white bearded god that appeared to the Native Americans. When the monks first came to convert the "indians", they were surprised to find that they already had a belief in a Noah type of person, Adam and Eve, and others, because it was written in their ancient temples in their drawings (it is believed that their is a record of Christ's visit and teachings). There is also history in China about the Temple of Heaven where it is believed that the Son of God appeared. They, too, had stories about Adam and Eve and others. These are not just coincidences. Some of the same stories and teachings (even though slightly distorted from time - just as gossip and legends change from person to person as they're passed down) from different sides of the world. God loves ALL of His children, and not just the ones in Jerusalem. God would speak to ALL of His children. Is it possible that these people also heard Christ's voice and teachings? If we had these original records, they would all teach us the things that we need to do to be an eternal family and return to God. The more witnesses there are, the more solid the truth and there would be no confusion.

The Bible doesn't teach anything. There are insights in it that can be learned, but mostly it's a giant Rorshach blot.

People thumb through it and find the answers that were already within them. That's why the 4 Religions based on the Bible and their hundreds of sects and cults all come up with messages that vary ranging from slightly to polar extremes.

Hardly anyone ever reads the whole Bible. Those who do tend to become agnostics. I did read it all the way through and came to the conclusion that Jesus is pretty cool, but God the Father is one loony, spiteful S.O.B.--who, if He exists isn't someone I could worship or even respect.

Most people just pick the verses that reinforce what they are already thinking. They aren't looking for Wisdom, they're looking for ammunition, for justification for the things they want to do.

So, back to the question. The Bible doesn't teach. It's just makes people more of what they are and more certain in their courses.

What the bible does NOT TEACH...
- To be a good person - The bible teaches this is impossible!
- That everyone is a child of God - The bible teaches that most are children of the devil.
- Unconditional love for all - This is a lie as well. God in facts hates the wicked.

What does the bible teach?
The bible answers this question. How can a Just and Holy God NOT cast ALL mankind into hell forever?

It teaches why God deserves our worship as Creator. He deserves to rule His creations as the only one who can bring about lasting good change for humankind.

Why man and earth are here and what our purpose is. What is the reasonable purpose for God allowing the suffering going on today and will He allow it to continue?

What is the future of the earth? What happens when we die? Why did Jesus have to come to earth when he did?

Since the penalty for Adam's sin was death, can humans ever look forward to eternal life on earth as was intended? What will happen to those we loved who have died?

The Bible teaches sound, reasonable answers to these questions.

IMO, the Bible teaches us about
Who God is as a person,
How he made all things,
How things went wrong for mankind,
How His Son died in order to help fix the wrong,
How His Kingdom is the only solution for mankinds problems, and
How He has proposed to bring complete and lasting peace and righteousness back to the Earth thru His heavenly Kingdom.

....and everything in between such as being a righteous person, how to resist doing wrong, how to have a happy family, how to pray, etc

Peace be with you

Hi Rae,
The bible has many words of wisdom for one to take unto themselves and learn personally. But, what has happened with it by those who use it for their own gain, power, greed, control, etc. is another story.
Blessed Be
