Sunday after church, a Mom asked her very young daughter what the
lesson was about. The daughter answered, "Don't be scared, you'll get your
quilt." Needless to say, the Mom was perplexed. Later in the day, the
pastor stopped by for tea and the Mom asked him what that morning's
Sunday school lesson was about. He said "Be not afraid, thy comforter is
coming."

John 14:26 (Whole Chapter)
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The Holy Spirit is the comforter.
I have recently experienced a life threatening illness. I was in the hospital on a morphine pump for five days before the doctors figured out what had gone wrong. During that time, I was going in and out of consciousness and you will never guess what was going through my mind during the awake times. Bible scriptures that I had previously memorized. There was not one moment that I was afraid. I was fully confident that God was in control, even when the Doctors had no answers. I truly understand this Scripture verse. "And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Indeed, I know my Comforter, the Holy Spirit. I could not have walked through my life without His comfort and love. A peace is born from this! One which no man can or, ever could provide.

Isn't it wonderful when you look at the scriptures and you realize that Jesus Gave all glory to the Father! Now, the Holy Spirit provides the same, for our Savior, Jesus! That is why I love this song: "You ask me how I know HE's real....HE LIVES within my heart!"

You answered your own question. The comforter is the Holy Spirit (aka the Holy Ghost). Nice story though.

Many blessings.

I really think that the comforter like you said is the holy spirit is also our guardian angel. The one that protects and watches over us. If you want to do something and you think that it might bring harm it is the comforter talking to you and protecting from danger.

Also John chapter 16...v.13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for her shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."
That in itself is comforting...to know that God promises we will know the truth.
