I dont think about it during my waking day, yet at night I have dreams about scoring again and how great the hit would be,. The dreams dont weaken my resolve to stay clean, so why am i still dreaming about scoring a hit

I took around 3g a day for five years. The longest I stayed awake for was 6 days and nights without eating a thing. It turned my life into a living Hell over a 5 year period. Now, I have a beautfull wife, a child, a GREAT job and a company car. Everything a man could dream of. Im genuinely happy and never wanna use again, so why must my dreams be of my previous chaotic existance?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They make me sewat sometimes, yet when i wake i havbe NO desire to go score!

Damnn. That stuff is hard to quit. I'm impressed. Staying clean for two years... even more so. Good for you.

I'd guess that the dreams about scoring aren't about getting high. Think of it this way. If you played baseball as a kid and hit the winning home run in a big game, you'd remember it forever, right? That memory would be about everything that surrounded hitting the homer - the cheers, your team mates and coaches responses. The homer itself would be incidental. Whereas that's a nice positive example, dreams about scoring are probably about the rush of defiance, breaking the rules, not getting caught, the subculture, and whatever else drove you to those times. I'm not talking a desire to return there, just the underlying psychology of it. If it's bothering you or tempting you or you simply are curious, pony up and talk to a therapist. There's something about then that your subconscious is trying to tell you, and it's probably not the obvious message. Although others here are saying, once an addict, always an addict, yada yada, I think sometimes that's just an easy way to write off what's not easily understood.

This is called the diease of addiction. There is no cure. However there is a away to keep it under controul. There is a program called Narcotics Anoymous. It's world wide. I'm really suprised you have been clean as long as you have without help. This is a we program. The dreams you are having is a sign of a relapse. I too attend Narcotics Anoymous. I encourage you to give it a try. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using, and you have that. Go to www.na.org or www.narcoticsanonymous.org check it out and search your city and state, you will find a meeting schedule, down load it, and attend a meeting. U dont have to say anything just show up and listen.
Good luck

I'v never had a drug addiction but I'm an ex smoker, I still dream about smoking then I wake up in the morning and think "oh no, I cracked!", then theres a sigh of relief when I realise it was just a dream.

I was raised on a pretty rough estate and I saw alot of my friends go down that road...some came out the other end, others didn't.
I think that once you become an addict it changes the way your brain is wired I suppose.
I wish I could offer a stronger answer but....meh, thats my little take.

It's lingering in the back of your head, that's why. You can't undo your experience, therefore the memory is gonna be stuck there forever. An addict to anything is always going to have that, whether it be drugs, chocolate or sex even - it's your determination and resolve that's gonna keep your nose clean. Whatever drug you have, you're always going to be chasing that first high. And that is probably what you are dreaming of.

Have you read Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis? It's one of the most gripping books I have ever read...his addictions are detailed and it'll really help your resolve. Also, Jim Carroll's Basketball Diaries are good :-)

You are lucky you got out of that before it did serious damage. You might crave it for the rest of your life. You might consider a hypnotherapist. Sometimes they can end your cravings through hypnosis.

Nobody really knows why we dream certain things.

It's probably better if you don't worry about it and go on with your life.
