As a former Christian, I think I'm qualified to answer.

I feel that it's a manipulative, dangerous, greedy, lying, scamming, brainwashing, bullying cult... and that remains true regardless of my belief in gods or lack thereof.

There are multitudes of people who have suffered tragic experiences during their involvement with Scientology. Read about them here:
http://www.lermanet.com/persecution/
http://www.whyaretheydead.net/krasel/
http://xenu.net/archive/personal_story/cheryl_s

Here are more "bad experiences" with the cult including an illegal plot to infiltrate the government, brainwashing techniques, mind control camps, attacks on critics, and DEATHS caused by Scientology doctrine and members:

● Operation Snow White – Under this official program, Scientology operatives committed infiltration, wiretapping, & theft of documents in government offices. This program constituted the single largest infiltration of the United States government in history. Among the 11 prominent Scientologists convicted of this conspiracy was Mary Sue Hubbard, the wife of Scientology’s “prophet”.

http://en.allexperts.com/e/o/op/operation_snow_white.htm

● Operation Freakout - Their campaign of sabotage & violence against Paulette Cooper, the writer who published her research & findings on several cults, including Scientology. Scientology’s official plan: to frame Paulette, ruin her career & reputation & get her either incarcerated or locked up in psychiatric confinement.
The official plan: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Krasel/cooper/frk1.html
Her book: http://holysmoke.org/cos/books/scandal-of-scientology-cooper.pdf

● Fair Game - the Scientology policy detailing how the organization may confront & handle critics & perceived enemies. Here is a direct quote: "Enemies may be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.”

● Physical & psychological punishment: Scientologists who "break the rules" while members of the "Sea Org" must subject themselves to the Rehabilitation Project Force (RPF), which includes regimes of harsh physical punishment, forced self-confessions, social isolation, hard labor and intensive ideological indoctrination.

● Brainwashing & mind control: Scientology exerts control over its members by means of typical cult tactics, including but not limited to controlling information about internal doctrine & criticism of the organization, severely restricting social contact outside the cult (including the practice of “disconnecting” with any family who question the credibility & trustworthiness of the cult), creating an “us against them” mentality by villainizing a specific out-group (for Scientology, it’s psychiatrists), & claiming all those outside the cult are unenlightened.

● Violent Kidnapping - Lisa McPherson was a Scientologist, was involved in a car accident & resultantly became mentally unstable. She was kidnapped from the hospital by agents of Scientology, held against her will, refused proper psychiatric treatment & allowed to STARVE TO DEATH.

Scientology is a false cult started by a science fiction writer by the name of L Ron Hubbard.

Mr. Hubbard was about to start a new business when his accountant suggested that if calls his new business a religion, the profits would all be tax free.

And that's how the "religion" of Scientology was born.

On the link below there are a bunch of links about Scientology and some other false cults.

Scientology is okay if taken for what it is, a religion made up by a man that prior to that was a failed Science Fiction writer. It in that regard is a lot like Islam which was founded by a man that was a failed Roman Catholic and failed Pagan, His parente were Pagan and he borrowed one of their many gods (allah) and many of the Roman Catholic teachings to make up a religion. Then he used Military might to spread his new religion with the motto repent or die.L. Ron Hubbard started a religion packaged with pseudo-science and sold it to celebreties knowing that many others would follow the Celebs and he would make much more than he could ever hope to make as a writer of Science Fiction garbage books. Note I have no problem with well written Sci-Fi but Hubbard is no more a good Sci-Fi writer than I am the Worlds Greatest Firefighter.

i'm no longer a christian... L. Ron Hubbard is widespread for asserting, "in case you want to alter into rich, initiate a faith." He became a technology fiction author who ultimately penned all the textual content cloth components in scientology. He grew to become rich. Many people have lost all of their money to scientology. they have been held captive or perhaps been brutalized and murdered...

Indeed they do. Which reveals how desperate militant atheism is, being driven by the same pride and arrogance of other false beliefs systems. And atheism is a dogmatic belief system, one that declares there is no God, which is a belief, not something they can in any way prove.

Bu whereas Scientology has been a verifiable religious mafia, and selfish and dishonest based upon it's founders own clear teachings and practices (http://www.watchman.org/profile/sientpro... ), atheists have to resort to aberrations of Christian faith (R. Catholicism, etc.) and or (incredibly) lump them with other religions in order to denigrate it, and to present themselves as a superior belief system (though they are loath to allow such a designation).

Yet all atheism can really offer as is a objectively baseless morality, one that does what seems "reasonable" to them, and which is the very atheistic foundation fellow atheists Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot operated out in murdering their millions. Of course they vehemently object to atheism being made the cause behind such effects (even while insisting pagan Hitler was a Christian), but this is indeed where the "reasonable" ever-morphing objectively baseless morality of atheism can and often does go .

In contrast, such examples as the Crusades and Inquisitions, as well as all bloodshed done in order to defend or expand the faith, was done contrary to the explicit and consistent teaching of the New Testament to believers under the New Covenant (2Cor. 6:1-10; 10:1-4; Eph. 6:12).

And while Scientology can only offer some help (at great expen$e) based upon psychological principals, beside cosmological (etc.) arguments, the existence of Christ is abundantly demonstrated empirically by cause and effect, in which those who, with a broken heart and contrite spirit (Ps. 34:18) turn in their hearts to Christ from sin, and cast all their faith in Him who died for their sins and rose again, realize effects that correspond to the claims of Object of their faith, and are contingent upon obedience Him. I am one of them. I would challenge those who dispute this to do their own research. Go to a growing evangelical, fundamental type church (maybe like a Calvary Chapel), and ask the Pastor for a list of people you can interview. Find out what their hearts and lives were like before and after their conversion, and the manner in which it came about. Then interview those who know them in their "B.C" days and after. and what you will find is effects that overall cannot simply be attributed to naturalistic causes, etc.

(John 20:30-31) "And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: {31} But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."

Wonderful...Some of the most famous scientists were Christians. Like Einstein or Newton. And those who aren't Christians still believed that there is a God. They are very smart people who recognize that it is impossible to create everything today without a creator. Go read A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawkings.

But how we feel about something is not relevant.

Feelings are deceptive and often wrong, but truth is truth.

Either something is true or it isn't.

Either it has some evidence for it or it doesn't.

You can't wish something false into being true and you can't wish something true into being false.

You have to look at the evidence for and against something and unless you can conclusively prove it one way or the other, the best you can say is that you don't know for sure.

A friend pointed out this to me.. I did not know about this until recently..

Why would atheists not like Christians anyway? Each Christian is a different person. And each Christian denomination is different.

I am born Christian and raised Christian but pratice Scientology.

You do not have to convert in order to be a Scientologist and therefore there is no conflict here.

Some people feel that if im not a praticing Christian, then im not Christian. To be honest, it doesnt matter to me what other people think about my beliefs. My relationship with God a personal thing and im sure it is adressed differently to each person.

And any Scientologist in this position would not appreciate anyone who invalidates their wins and gains from this technology just because someone else doesnt have this viewpoint.

Scientology is used by all faiths. Its opened to anyone and everyone. Its uses are endless and the gains are there to be had. And thats the long and short of it.

Don't know anything about it except they don't accept mental illness that is why Tom differed with that star about how she felt after having a baby.. But he did change his mind and we weren't told why. They are friends and she was invited to the wedding and she accepted. I don't care about organized religion but I understand why it is and how it controls the general public.
