The basic career is the same. I am a Dermatology nurse. I have the same nursing training as other Licensed nurses, I just work in a specialty clinic. A Dermtology nurse might have special clinic-specific training, either on the job or inservice type training. There are courses that a nurse can take through professional organizations to become a "Certified Dermatology nurse". That just gives you specific training and then tests you for compentencies.

A nurse is a general nurse and assist a general practioner, a dermatologist nurse is a nurse who has taken specialist training in dermatology, skin disease. He/she would then normally assist a specialist doctor called a Dermatologist. A specialist in skin disease. Hope that helps darling, but don't lose any sleep over it

Nurses also have the option to specialise, and thank god that they do. They really are, in the vast majority of cases, underpaid and overlooked angels.

Edit:- Thanks Liz, down below, LOL Think that says it all and confirms what I said, ex orthopaedic nurse who worked and studied hard to specialise. Of course I couldn't do the op, but many times had to show my surgeon how to use the equipment!! All you nurses and ex nurses have been there and know what I'm talking about right, LOL

Both are nurses; one just happens to work for a Dermatologist. Some nurses are Licensed Practical Nurses
(LPN) and others are Registered Nurses (RN). Registered nurses go to school for a longer period of time and can do things that LPN's cannot do according to their licenses.

A nurse is a nurse. We all take the same registration exam. After that, you can proceed to become an nurse anesthetist, a nurse practitioner, or a physicians' assistant, to name a few specialties, but usually a nurse in one doctor's office is the same as a nurse in another doctor's office.
