All sorts of things can be acheived with selective breading.

It takes LOTS of generations.

Broadly, all our breeds of domestic dogs have been bred from wild dogs such as wolves.

This is why they all belong to the same species and can produce viable ofspring when interbred.

If they weren't the same species, feral dogs would not be the problem they are and only pure bred dogs would exist, no mutts of mixed parentage!

As opposed to what?

Look at the Belyaev fox experiments which are nowhere near as old as the domestication of dogs (15K or 100K years depending on the theory). In this continuing experiment, foxes were bred for temperament. Mild temperament produces dog (versus wolf or fox) type physical and behavioral characteristics.

This does not mean that all species of type this could turn into dogs. Dogs probably have more pliable genetics that make them unique to futzing around. The ancestor to the dog may not even exist any longer. At any rate, we should know a great deal more in the years ahead.

When left to breed randomly, dogs evolve very rapidly into the medium-sized, prick eared, short haired dog that exists everywhere in the world. Without constant human intervention, purebred characteristics would disappear in a few years.

Well, where do you think they came from?

If you look at DNA evidence and fossil records, it points to wolves as ancestors to domestic dogs.

We aren't making this up, its backed up by scientific fact.

In fact people did breed dogs, one litter at a time, for the last 3000 years or so, to suit various needs. St. Bernards withstand cold and find people lost in snow. German Shepards, Collies and others were bred to be smart, agile and fast to herd animals. Terriers kill rats and other vermin, and look at Huskies and Malamutes. If that doesn't say wolf, I don't know what does.
Chihuahuas, well, chihuahuas are cute, fun and are great lap sitters! LOL

What about this don't you understand?

Any variation within the dog kind is done through artificial (intelligent) selection, which can change almost any plant or animal very quickly. Most dog breeds around today are less than one-hundred years old. Talk to any dog breeder to verify this fact. However, Mendel's Law and common sense state that dogs produce dogs and peas produce peas. You may get variations but you cannot get something completely different. The concept of macro-evolution clearly violates Mendel's Law. Noah could have had couple of generic dogs on his arc that later produced a wide variation. If you want more information on this topic you can visit www.drdino.com or www.answersingenesis.org. They didn't just turn into St. Bernards. It took years of selective breeding and many generations.
You don't understand selective breeding, do you?
We came from cavemen. Do you think that is baloney too?

There is absolutely NO evidence of macro-evolution or one animal developing from another. The answer stating that wolves evolved from gophers is way wrong. Wolf to dogs through selective breeding (micro-evolution) is the more accurate answer.
Through 170 years of research there has not been one ounce of evidence supporting macro-evolution in any species! Don't believe me or anyone else. Do your own research and you'll find the truth.

You must consider the selective breeding involved, and how LONG the process took! Man has domesticated these animals for thousands of years. The domesticated dog is one of the most widely kept companion animal in human history!

Do a Google search on "origin of dogs east Asian wolves".
You will get a lot of information. It seems all of our dogs are descended from east Asian Wolves about 15,000 years ago. Selective breeding created all the breeds we now have. There has been DNA testing of over 600 breeds of dogs and they all go back to Wolves in east China.
So you little Poodle and your big Great Dane are all related to Wolves from China about 15,000 years ago.

There is no evolution, God created all animals, plants, dirt, even man, he just chose to make different breeds of dogs... that guy is a liar, and he needs to know that it's not funny when he tricks people into believing that crap
