My daughter today who is almost 4 years old has dark green color poop similar to spinich. I am just curious since she says she doesn't feel well and her tummy hurts. She doesn't eat a lot of veggies but takes vitamin supplements. She did eat some cheese and spinich ravilos a couple of days ago. Could that be causing the color of poop she's having?

The only colors of poop that are cause for worry are black, white, and bloody.

Black like tar means there's probably some internal bleeding somewhere. (And it won't be dark chocolate brown, it will be obviously black!)
White like mayonnaise means there's often a liver malfunction.
Bloody is either bleeding in her lower bowel or if it's a little blood on the tissue after a really hard poop, a tiny tear called a rectal fissure. The first one warrants a visit to the doctor, the second really doesn't.

Any other color of the rainbow is usually related to something she eats. The antibiotic Omnicef can cause reddish poop. Kool-aid, other red or purple juices, or even some fruits like grapes, can cause greenish. I know of a kid who ate the innards of a Magic Marker that gave him bright blue poop. (THAT was a little shocking to mom and dad!)

Absolutely. Your poop color tells you what's been going on in your body, or at least what your poop went through on its way out. I'm not entirely sure on the specifics, but I can tell you that: 1. Brown or light brown stool (poop) is normal. 2. Yellow, if it's not just a lightish brown, could be a sign of a benign blood problem called Gilbert's Syndrome or infection from a parasite called Giardia (you'd know though because that would be runny and painful). Gilbert's is OK, Giardia is worth immediate medical attention. 3. Green is usually caused by iron suppliments, and can be anywhere from bright green to brownish green. It can also come from chowing on veggies. 4. White poop is possible in people who have taken a barium milkshake for a medical exam. 5. Tarry brown, black, or red poop is a real problem - it means that you're bleeding somewhere internally in your gastrointestinal system and that blood is being digested with your food. Could mean you have an ulcer, severe infection, or other injury. If you see this, TALK TO A DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY. Hope that helps...

Poop that is green and diarhea (and has a really really bad smaell) can be rotovirus. If that is the case and she has alot of diarhea she would need to be checked by a doctor for dehydration. But if it is not diarhea and it is hard for her to go to the bathroom, she could be constipated, especially if she eats alot of food with iron such as spinach and takes a supplement with iron, or drinks alot of milk but not alot of water. Otherwise she might just have a little virus and it's just a coincidence that her poop is the color that it is ( or it could be the ravioli). I wouldn't worry about it unless she has a lot of diarhea or if she has other symptoms, because sometimes in little kids a stomach ache or head ache can actually be a sign of strep throat ( usually with a fever too).
I have 5 kids ranging in age from 15 -3 so we have experianced all of these things listed. Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!

I have heard that babies get green poo if their milk is drunk too fast. For older children, green poo can be from nose mucas when a child has a cold. Has your daughter had flu recently?
