It's a free country. You don't have to tell anyone anything you don't want them to know. Too bad, though, that you didn't have a better relationship with some of your co-workers. One of them may someday consider hiring you......

I really don't blame you...If I left my job, I wouldn't want some of my co-workers to know where I was going or why...It is none of there business and I would like all communication with them to stop....It will probably be the reason that I'm leaving anyway......

Here is what you say. Be direct so they don't keep asking.
"My new employer has asked me not to say anything until I start work there. Give me a couple weeks and we can talk, what is your personal email address?"
Then you can send them an email or not.
Also you should not say anything as you could have coworker, manger or HR person call the new company to say how you are a bad employee. Sometimes people are frustrated and call to acuse the other company of poaching employees.

I am about to leave my company too but I am not going to tell my co-worker the exact reason- although they are so nice. Sometimes we don't need to clarify everything- too tiring to explain to everyone. Do what you feel like it's best for you.

There's absolutely no reason you need to tell them where you're going. Depending on how big the company, though, it would be easy for them to find out anyway, if they're that nosy. I work for a very small company and my boss has this tendancy to tell us where former employees are now working.

Of course it is alright. The "Changing jobs" police will not come get you if you don't tell them. Some will be curious, perhaps overly so. Just tell them you got something you think you will enjoy better. Stay away from the "better job", "better pay" comments.

It's ok and right for you if that's what you want. It means you don't consider them to be friends, so you don't owe them any info.

You are under no obligation but why not? Sounds a bit strange to me.

If you don't want them to know then don't tell them...it's really none of their business.
