Known as Pisang Goreng, these delicious deep-fried bananas should be cooked at the last minute, so that the outer crust of batter is crisp in texture and the banana is soft and warm inside.

ingredients
115 g (4 oz) self-raising flour
40 g (1 1/2 oz) rice flour
2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) salt
200 ml (7 fl oz) scant
1 cup water finely grated lime rind (optional)
8 small bananas
oil for deep-frying
sugar and 1 lime, cut in wedges, to serve

method
1. Sift both the flours and the salt together into a bowl. Add just enough water to make a smooth, coating batter. Mix well, then add the lime rind, if using.

2. Peel the bananas and dip them into the batter two or three times.

3. Heat the oil to 190°C (375°F) or when a cube of day-old bread browns in 30 seconds. Deep-fry the battered bananas until crisp and golden. Drain and serve hot, dredged with sugar and with the lime wedges to squeeze over the bananas.

I actually just saw a recipe for that in a book yesterday.

It's called "Banana Tempura."
The book is: Japanese Home Cooking.

Ingredients:
one egg
one cup ice cold water
1 1/2 cup tempura flour (Asian markets would have this.)
vegetable oil, for deep-frying
4 bananas, sliced in half lengthwise
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons superfine (caster) sugar
4 scoops vanilla ice cream

In a bowl, beat egg lightly. Add water and continue to beat lightly. Mix in tempura flour; do not overmix. Batter should be slightly lumpy.

Pour oil in a deep, heavy-bottomed frying pan to fill 3 inches deep. Heat oil until it reaches 375 degrees F on a deep-frying thermometer. Working in batches, dredge banana pieces in flour, shaking off excess, then dip in batter, allowing excess to drain away. Carefully slip bananas into hot oil. When batter is beginning to set, use chopsticks to drip a little extra batter on banabas. Cook until bananas are light golden brown, 3-4 minutes. Using a wire skimmer, remove bananas from oil and drain on paper towels. Arrange 2 pieces banana on each serving plate. Sprinkle lightly with sugar and serve with a scoop of ice cream.

It probably is just a tempura coated fried banana. Was there a sauce or anything with it? If that is what it is then you can easily make it at home. Find a nice recipe for tempura, and coat the banana, deep fry it until it's a nice golden color.

5 Bananas
Flour for dredging bananas
Veg oil for deep frying
1 Egg
250 millilitre Ice cold water
125 millilitre Flour sifted with 1/2 tsp. baking soda
Honey

BATTER Method: ~ Heat the oil in your deep fat fryer, frying pan, or wok to 375 degrees F, 190 degrees celsius. - Mix up the batter ingredients with a whip until somewhat frothy. - Cut the bananas into 1 inch / 2 1/2 cm chunks. Roll them around in the flour until lightly coated. - Dip a few banana pieces into the batter and fry them until golden coloured. Drain on paper towels. Do in small batches until they're all done. Heat honey in saucepan or microwave until liquid and hot; pour this over the bananas (a few pieces per person). Extremely good with vanilla ice cream
