Well, this question is about my father.
He is 52
He is a diabetic
He is about 130 lbs. (and losing weight very quickly even though he is eating regularly)
Although my main concern is that:
He has a cronic pain that seems never to leave. The pain is mainlly in the top half of both of his legs. I dont know what to do. We have been to many doctors and none of them see any thing wrong. I was wondering if you have any suggestions. Is it cancer??? The pain is making hard to walk, he seems a bit depressed. And I think that maybe the pain is making him loose weight (from all the asprins he is talking ; which still dont work). If you guys have any idea this could be please tell me.

Diabetic neuropathies are a family of nerve disorders caused by diabetes. People with diabetes can, over time, have damage to nerves throughout the body. Neuropathies lead to numbness and sometimes pain and weakness in the hands, arms, feet, and legs. Problems may also occur in every organ system, including the digestive tract, heart, and sex organs. People with diabetes can develop nerve problems at any time, but the longer a person has diabetes, the greater the risk.

Symptoms depend on the type of neuropathy and which nerves are affected. Some people have no symptoms at all. For others, numbness, tingling, or pain in the feet is often the first sign. A person can experience both pain and numbness. Often, symptoms are minor at first, and since most nerve damage occurs over several years, mild cases may go unnoticed for a long time. Symptoms may involve the sensory or motor nervous system, as well as the involuntary (autonomic) nervous system. In some people, mainly those with focal neuropathy, the onset of pain may be sudden and severe.

Symptoms may include

numbness, tingling, or pain in the toes, feet, legs, hands, arms, and fingers

wasting of the muscles of the feet or hands

indigestion, nausea, or vomiting

diarrhea or constipation

dizziness or faintness due to a drop in postural blood pressure

problems with urination

erectile dysfunction (impotence) or vaginal dryness

weakness
In addition, the following symptoms are not due to neuropathy but nevertheless often accompany it:

weight loss
depression

He should see someone who specializes in treating diabtics. The syptoms you discribe sound very simialr to diabetic neuropathies. I would really try to have him get checkd again!! Good luck and I wish you and your father the best!

I am not a Dr., I am a diabetic. Your Dad may have what I have. It is called neuropathy. Introduce the word in the next conversation with the Dr.

I have tried several different medications. None have helped me a bit. I take about 20 aspirin tablets a day. It is the only way I can begin to function. Mine is bad enough that I have even wondered about amputation. This crap really sucks. Tell your dad I know how he feels and wish I could do more.

I do accept email at my profile if he wants someone to talk to. Warn him, I can be a whiner. It has been many years and I haven't improved one iota.

This is a common symptom of diabetics. It is called Diabetic Neuropathy. Over time, continued sugar spikes can damage the nerves. Go to a diabetes specialist, there are several medications specifically for this problem, Lyrica is one of them Topamax is another.

I suggest your father try alternative doctors such as a chiropractor or acupuncturist. These doctors may be able to find out what is causing this problem since you have been through medical doctors. I know that they would be able to reduce the pain And help your father walk better.
