In computerized games of Texas Hold'em, what determines when a hand wins. What I mean is, if I had a 6 and a 5 in my hand, and there was a 5 on the table, and someone else had a 4 and a 5 in their hand, why would my 6 play and enable me to win? Other times, my other card plays and I win, but sometimes it doesn't. Can anyone tell me why?

Um, yeah it both players have the 5, and its on the table aswell it goes to the next higher hand which is you at 6, if you didn't win it because the other player got a mix of card like the 4 and another 4 on the table, or flush or royal of somehow? which makes it 3 to 2, get it..

Remember this always: A poker hand contains 5 (five) cards.

In Texas Hold'em, you pick the 5 best cards out the 7 total cards (2 in your hand,5 on the board).

Whether or not your 6 plays depends on what else is on the board. Chances are, your 6 won't play, since there are a lot of cards higher than 6 that could be on the board.

Example: you have 5, 6; opponent has 4, 5

If the board has 5, 9, 10, J, Q you and you opponent would split the pot because you both have: 5, 5, Q, J, 10.

If the board has 5, 3, 2, 7, 8 your hand would be 5, 5, 8, 7, 6. Your opponent's hand would be 5, 5, 8, 7, 4. So you would win.

When playing Texas Hold'em, you use 5 cards to determine your winning hand. So if the board has a 5 Q K 3 2 out and you have a 5 and a 6, you have a pair of 5s and a Q K and 6 (called kickers). The other person with the 5 and 4 would use his pair of 5s, the Q K and his 4. However, if you both have a pair and your 6 and his 4 cannot beat the board, you'd split the pot. An example of such a board would be 5 K Q A 2. You would both use your pair of 5s, and the K Q A. The 6 in your hand and the 4 in his hand wouldn't matter. Hope that helps.
