I think a wall is horrible. I'd like to punish the businesses that hire illegals though. I'd like to encourage the Mexican people to protest their own government about conditions being too bad that they can't support their family.

I do not agree that a fence across our northern and southern borders would be the same a the Berlin Wall. The Berlin wall was built to enslave the people of Eastern Europe and to keep them from escaping to freedom.
We have two serious problems at our borders and a fence will help but is not the complete solution.
Problem 1. International terrorists have declared war on the US and have the help of nations that are our enemies, ie; Russia, China, North Korea, Cuba, Iran, and others. They are secretly trying to enter the country to do us great harm. A fence would slow them down, but stronger law enforcement is needed to track them down and to expell them. They are not here for freedom or to improve their lives, but to destroy us.
Problem 2. In far greater numbers than the terrorists are the illegals crossing our borders seeking economic prosperity. Seeking a better life is not a crime, but illegally entering the country is! A fence and increased border guards will only slow it down. If however employers who hire the illegals were prosecuted and fined $500,000 for each illegal they hired and served 5 years in jail the jobs would dry up and and the immigration would stop. Those here who could not find work would go home or starve. Congress must also change the law so that you cannot have citizenship just by being born here, unless at least one parent is a citizen.
And since I do not believe that our government is going to do anything serious about these problems we as a country need to get ready for some very serious attacks in the future.

I am torn on this issue. But at this point what else can the U.S. do to stop the endless flood of illegal aliens from coming over the border? I don't think it could be put into the same catagory as the Berlin wall though. If I were president I would make the fines bigger for companies that knowingly employ illegals and try things like that before building a wall but that hasn't worked so far so maybe the wall will at least slow down the amount of people crossing the border.

There should definately be a wall on the border between the USA and Mexico, the higher the better, the thicker the better, with turrants and manned with border patrol guards and dogs. If not a wall, then blast a huge moat, and fill with crocodiles.
For some unexplained reason people south of our borders have the mistaken belief that they can just come across that border any time they want to live and work illegally in our country.
They are WRONG.
Those people are criminals and they will never obey the laws, they will never respect our borders. They will never respect our nation.
So a wall is necessary. It is more humane than land mines, or military who would shoot to kill at anyone trying to illegally cross.
The USA has got to have something to stop the illegal aliens, the smugglers, the drugs, all the criminals who keep coming in here. We don't want them here, we don't need them here.

What??? That's extremely obtuse. (Probably purposely so.) I'd equate it more with the Great Wall of China which was designed to keep out the Huns and other enemies of the country. The Berlin Wall was designed to keep Germans IN the country. The American wall would be just the opposite of the Berlin Wall and just the same as The Great Wall. It's designed to keep our enemies OUT.
Does that make it clear enough for you? I can't imagine simplifying it any more.
Personally, I think they should electrify the fence. That's not only an additional deterent, but will also help keep those pesky bolt cutters at bay. Have you ever heard the expression "Good walls make good neighbors."

What's bad about building a wall?
Illegal immigration is a serious problem here in the United States. The wall will deter illegal immigration and make it easier for the criminals to be caught. If anyone is thinking about coming to the USA, do it legally - go through a background check, etc. Wait your turn instead of running across the border.
There is a difference between LAWS and MOVIES. Comparing what we're doing to movies is absurd and immature.

A wall is overdue. There needs to be some effective way to keep illegal immigrants out. The real problem now, is that too many are here already.

Sloppy comparison which illustrates a lack of understanding.
The Berlin wall was built to keep Germans from fleeing their "communist paradise" for west German and west Berlin. It kept people in, not out.
A wall along the Mexican border would be built to keep people out of the country.

The majority of the American citizens WANT THE WALL and our government is now paying attention to what our wants are.

Yup, we need a wall or fence to protect the US from Mexico and Canada. Maybe not like the one in Germany but we can use hi-tech ideas that will secure our borders. I believe that every country must be safe and protect their citizens from illegal activity (terrorism and illegal immigration for example). By the way, I don't consider this a racial issue (I love immigration, but legally) but a national security issue (post 9-11 world). Thanks!
