I want to see if its worth buying a PS3 or an HD DVD player. If a Blu-ray disc player can read HD DVD, then choice is simple PS3 if not then, I'd rather go with what ever is cheaper.

There is a player out that plays both Blu Ray and HD. Hd is a better quality picture and holds alot more memory if you plan to burn movies with computer. The PS3 has come down in price by $100.00 and the games are awesome. You can get an 80 gig PS3 now too for the same price as the launch price.

despite what some people say here ps3 will not play hd-dvd it will play blu-ray and regular DVD other blu-ray players will do this also if you could find one that did all 3 it would be very expensive why do you want to play HD-dvd? do you have a source for cheap movies? they havent been made in a while. as a cheap option for hd-dvd there was an external that plugged into an xbox 360 fry's sold those and some hd-dvds for cheap, but they are not being made any more.

No. Blu-ray players cannot read HD DVDs and vice versa. Both are completely different formats, and need separate players. Some companys are working on releasing a player that can play both, but for now the best you can do is to get a dual HD/Blu-ray player like the old VHS/DVD combos.

No
B-R can't play HD DVD and vice versa.
However, a PS3 is more than a B-R player!

Plus it is getting trickier now; the studios are split in half and not all movies will be created in both formats.
Since everyone is so stupid, I would say hold on, until they stop being so greedy (and prices go down even more).
