Yes... i'm in the army and i've never been through so much medical training in my LIFE! Just about every 2 weeks i'm going through medical training for iraq, and i leave in a couple weeks, but i can do what's necessary to help save somebody's life. They might lose their leg or arm because of what happened, but we have turnikets attached to our vests in my unit. So no matter what, we'll have the few medical supplies we need to help them live a little longer. Plus there are a lot of new things coming out.. like... QuikClot!!! THAT STUFF IS AWESOME! Well unless the person is allergic to shell fish.. but you'd know by their ID tags. It will stop the main artery in somebody's leg from bleeding anymore. It's pretty awesome. The link below should give you some info on it. Also... i think we have the best medivac now too. I can give an IV and CPR thanks to the army!

Yes!! You all are wrong. It has been proven that durring war more medical break throughs happen. Front line doc's now can save more lives then ever before. There are things being used on the battle field to save lives you have no idea about. Getting a wounded Marine/ Soldier treated on the battle field today is nothing like it was10 years ago. I personally know several Marines and one doc that wouldnt be alive today if it wasnt for the awesom medical attention they get from the minute they are hit until they are in a state side hospital.

God bless all our Corpsmen and Army medics

Yes, but there are other reasons too. Not just medical, but body armor as well.

Plus, overall there have been few casualties then compared to our past wars. We lost as many troops as we have in Iraq in one battle in WWII. The enemy just isnt that good. They generally are not good marksmen. Almost every time they have tried to stage an attack or ambush, it has failed misserably. That is why they rely on IEDs. They cant do much else. So another reason why there are not a lot of "body bags" (BTW, to us soldiers, that is kind of a disrespectful comment), is because the enemy cant inflict the casualties.

Number 1, we do not get to see the body bags coming into Dover Air force base because the president does not want people to know.
Number 2, Yes there are fewer, but some of the ones that are saved are really bad shape and will need care forever. I am not saying that they shouldn't try to save everyone, but there are many more critically wounded soldiers that will not recover. and their care is not being taken care of.
The care might be said to be much better than Korea or Viet Nam, but we are still wasting lives there and leaving many disabled veterans.

Many reasons exist not just medical care, but in addition we have fewer troops than other wars, also technology is better, better trained troops, and so forth. Medical maybe one of the top reasons however you need to look at the whole picture.

I believe it is because the military build up is working.

Medical attention for combatants is the best it's ever been, but the injuries due to IED attacks cannot be seen, many times. The concussions and brain injuries far outpace any seen in previous wars, and in many instances, they are more dibilitating than physical injury that will eventually heal.

Medical technology and evac procedures have moved ahead light years since in the past 2 decades. Many of those tens of thousands wounded would be dead if it wasn`t for the bang up "golden hour" emergency medical care they receive.
If only they had similar care once they returned home.

because of a combination of better personal armor, better and quicker medical treatment, we are seeing a much lower rate of soldiers killed. But, it seems like the wounds are getting so much worse. This is because so many more are living now, that would have perished in previous wars. War is ugly. Sometimes it is called for. But it is still ugly.

Are you referring to less body bags for us military or civilians? i'm assuming us military, but the health care is a lot better now than it has been in any other war. that's why less troops are dying and more are surviving with missing limbs, as well as being disfigured. if we had the same health care as we did in vietnam or even desert storm, a lot more troops would be dying.

P.S. morwood, just FYI we do patrol with IA's and IP's. How else will they learn how to do it than by doing it with us.
