i know that if you lift for 2 hours straight its too much, but why is it "bad" for you?

there are 3 main reasons:

#1 - if it takes 2 hours to complete your training you are either taking too many breaks between sets and/or exercises or not training at a high enough level of intensity.

#2 - there is only so much you can do to stimulate a muscle in one training session. like with many things more isn't always better. quality beats quantity any day of the week.

#3 - the levels of catabolic hormones increase drastically after long training sessions. this is counter productive to recovery and mucle growth

Any type of exercise done for too long becomes detrimental. You will begin to tear down the muscles. After a work out the muscles get stronger during the recovery cycle, which is why you do not work out on consecutive days.

Well, it simply over-works your mucles. The cells work to hard and they can die from it, thus meaning a loss of muscle mass and making your whole workout worthless. So... that's why

When you get tired the risk of injuring yourself becomes greater. That is why. Stop before you become exhausted like you would snow skiing.
