I will be flying this monday...it will be a 15 hour flight. I would like to check-in a suitcase and have an appropriate carry-on with me, compact enough but roomy enough to have everything in it including wallet, documents, toiletries, change of clothes, waterbottle etc. Also something comfortable and durable. What kind works best...? A back-pack, or a large hand-bag, or something else? Thanks everyone.

i usually do a small mini suitcase - roller type and a backpack. since it sounds like a really far distance make sure you have a chance of clothes in the one carry on. in the roller type i put the stuff i would need if they lost my luggage - hence the change of clothes AND swimsuit.. that then goes into the overehead. then in the backpack i use it lke my purse. inside is everything i might want while in flight - books, music, make up - slippers.... that one goes under the seat.
i will also recommend buying a soda or water once you cross through security to have some extra liquid for trip. this way if you call asleep when they are dolling out the soft drinks - you will have your own until the next round!
happy travels!

on mostly any flight you are allowed two carry-ons: one to store in an overhead compartment and one under your seat. I recommed that you put everything you won't need until you get of or when the 'fasten seatbelt' sign is off, in a standrad size duffel in the overhead. Then take all of your entertainment and 'lady products' (etc) in your smaller bag under your seat. (i recommend a snack)

A rolling bag is best because a regular backpack can wear down your back. I always use a rolling bag and I have a ton of energy!
Good Luck,
