The Canon AE-1 was a great camera in its day, but the early examples will now be over 30 years old. It was replaced in 1981 by the Canon AE-1 Program, and by the late 1980s, Canon had introduced the first EOS using a completely different lens mount.
Despite their age, the FD series lenses made by Canon for this generation of manual focus cameras were truly excellent. You should be able to find reasonably priced lenses on eBay and other on-line second-hand stores relatively easily.
The AE-1 supports shutter priority auto-exposure and manual exposure. If you can find the slightly later AE-1 Program, it has a program mode, shutter and aperture priority as well as program mode.
I have not used an AE-1 for some years, but have the AE-1 Program in my Canon collection, and it still performs remarkably well.

I used one for over 20 years. Great little camera. I still have mine, but it has an exposure problem now and not worth it to fix. Hard to make sure you get a good one without spending a bit to have it checked out. Unless I found a great deal, I would probably look for something a bit newer.

It's a great camera, but it is an old one, so you'd need to make sure it's in good working condition.

It is a wonderful camera. It's old but if it works properly it will give you photographs that are as good as any other camera.
