This is an excellent question. Here is my take on it.

Imagine this is the problem. You want to say I love you to a person sitting at a distance. If you shout it, they will hear it but it will not sound right. If you whisper it they won't hear it.
How do you handle it? Answer, you say it more distinctly.

Think about it, if you are whispering something to someone you exaggerate the pronunciation. This makes understanding it easier. People naturally associate this exaggerated pronunciation with speaking softly and intimately. When singing a delicate passage, soften your voice just a little so it is not booming and exaggerate the pronunciation a bit.

The effect is wonderful! The people in the last row will still have the effect you are speaking intimately just to them.

Breathe correctly - relaxed, but from deep in your lungs. Actually expand your ribs as you fill up with air - put your hands at your lowest rib and FEEL it.

Vocalize on an easy syllable, like an "ooo" or "aah" sound.

Keep your chin down just a bit and raise your upper palate - imagine putting an entire hard-boiled egg in your mouth!

Then sing smoothly up and down about 5 notes and get comfortable with the sound. Make small adjustments to your chin/mouth position to get the sound you desire.

Stand directly in front of a wall while singing and your sound will come right back to you.

Also, please remember that you will sound stronger as you get older. I don't know how old you are, but if you are younger than 20 (or even early 20's) your voice may not be fully developed yet. And, regular practice and using your voice correctly will help you sound stronger. (Just like using your muscles regularly will make them stronger - but abusing them will strain them.)

Hope that makes sense. Good luck!!!! Let me know how it goes!
