Why are there different grocery stores?
Why don't we just buy our groceries from one place, that has just one type of food?
We only need to eat a certain number of calories, and receive a certain amount of nutrients -- so why don't we all eat the same food, from the same place?
Godspeed you on your search for answers.

The Christian Church is really people who are in many different Christian Churches. Different denominational Churches are on the same Rock Foundation; Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.
These Churches teach the Christian bible. They are just different denominations. There are different denominations because the devil plants tares in churches. These are the seed sown of the devil. By adding or taking away from the bible. The slanders, false doctrines, etc. The devil divides the Church this way. And there isn't the victory power for the body of Christ like it should be. It is written to wait till the end of the age & the angels will divide the wheat (Gods Word) from the tares (devils lies). So? I like to go to an undenominational Church, because my Preacher preaches the Bible Truth. http://www.riveroflifefellowship.org . The best thing to do is go where the Lord plants you & shine the light in all the dark corners (Like the mens additional doctrines, or false docrines or slanders, etc.).

Fair Q.! There is NO "Christian church" started by "Christ", Only a "Body of Believers" referred to as "The Church". Do Not confuse either "Organized Religion or church Buildings" as "The Church / Body of Believers". That being said, why are there so many different cars, bicycles, tires, restaurants etc.??? Why are U "Prejudiced"??? Because U just LIKE whatever U Like, right??? People have different "Opinions / Beliefs" on the "Interpretation of Scripture" just as U like "Chocolate Sundays" over "Banana Splits"!!! Scripture was preserved for Individuals to Understand. Christians have been left with the Holy Spirit to help them Understand the "Meaning" of the written Word of Scripture. But many in the past just like Today can't read or don't want to do their own Work & so they turn to an "Organized Religion" in hopes of learning the "Truth" and getting to Heaven through attending each week. Most never reach their "Goal" as Christ is a "Personal Belief" that Can't be done for U!!! John

CHRISTIANITY is the one church that teaches the Christian bible and that is it. Religion is not Christianity. Religion is man made rules and regulations on how to worship God. I can't believe people don't "get" this concept. I go to a non denominational church - a new testament church that just talks about the teachings of Christ and how we should live according to his teachings.

One reason there are so many different churches and denominations in our nation is because we live in a country that practices religious freedom.
This wasn't true several hundred years ago in many countries; then only one church was tolerated in most nations. But when people immigrated here from other countries they were free to bring their own religious practices with them, and they did. Many of our major denominations trace their beginnings back to their European roots—Lutherans from Scandinavia, for example, or Presbyterians from Scotland.
Other churches came into existence because of some minor disagreement over doctrine, or to meet the needs of a particular group of people. Sadly, occasionally churches have been started for less noble reasons—a conflict between members, for example. When that happens, Satan must rejoice; one of the things the Bible says God hates is "a man who stirs up dissension among brothers" (Proverbs 6:19).
In spite of this, all Christian churches agree on the central truths of the Gospel: We are sinners in need of God's forgiveness; Jesus Christ came down from Heaven to save us from our sins by His death on the cross; by His resurrection we can have eternal life. He alone is our hope, and He alone is the foundation of His people. Have you committed your life to Him?

Because each one has a different interpretation of the Bible, or of scriptures they read. Most denominations of churches start as a splinter group of another. There was something they didn't agree with that the church was doing or teaching. Ephesians 4:5 tells us this.... "One Lord, one faith, one baptism."

Because an apostasy set into the Christian congregation after the death of the Apostles, in fact it was already starting to happen before they died and they warned of it. We were told not to let sects and divisions arise out of the congregation, but they did. Satan has control of Christendom along with all false religions. There is only one faith, one truth, and by their fruits you will know them Jesus said. Who are doing the will of God, who adhere to the Bible as the word of God in it's entirety, who make themselves no part of the world, who does the world hate because they are no part of the world, who will not pick up weapons against his brother, or anyone for that matter, who are preaching this good news of the kingdom in all the earth following Jesus Christ example to his disciples? There is only one group on earth doing this, and everyone knows who they are. They teach the truth about God and his Son and the world hates them.

Humans just don't grasp the truth that God wants us to have a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus. Not religion. Religion is filled with rules and doctrines. Jesus is God's answer of love, and teaching us to do what is best for us. Not rules, regulations and doctrines. We are told in James 1:27 (New International Version)
27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Follow Jesus, not religion. The church is not an organization, it is the people who follow Jesus. The bride of Christ.

Because no one agrees on what constitutes the bible nor on how it is interpreted, is the answer you'll get from theologians. The real answer is hat religion is about power and control, and those unwilling to submit to others but wanting to use the established control system formed their own sects.
