If you have your learner's permit, do you need car insurance?

You have to be covered by a policy. You cannot buy a vehicle and drive it without insurance, whether you have the licenced driver with you or not. But you can be covered on the policy of the person teaching you to drive in their car, normally a parent or a driver instructor.

The insurance is on the car, not the driver. You should be able to be on your parents' insurance for a very reasonable price. And you don't ever want to drive without insurance.

No, you only need car insurance if you own a car. If you are driving your parents car, then they would add you to their insurance as an insured driver, or make sure their policy covers drivers other than themselves.

Some insurance companies have clauses in the policy that prevent you from letting anyone under 25 or 26 from driving your car, unless they are on the policy.

To be safe, have your parents add you as a driver on their policy. good luck.

Only if you purchased a car. Otherwise, you would be covered by the other party if it is so indicated in their policy.
