It's recommended that you do a minimum of 30 hours of lessons. At £20.00 a lesson thats roughly £600.
The Theory test is £28.50 and the Practical Test is approx £50.00.
Some Driving Schools give discount if you block book your lessons (e.g. pay for 10 lessons up-front) or you could do an intensive course ( 1 - 2 weeks). The prices start at £750 and can go up to £1500.
Once you pass your test you can do a Pass Plus course. It can save you up to 40% on your insurance and is highly recommended! It costs anything from £60 to £150.
Altogether you are looking at, AT LEAST £700 just to get a driving license.

This page will tell you all the information you need about getting a provisional licence -
http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers.aspx
It costs £45 to get it. If you dont have a digital passport then you can get your documents checked in the postoffice you get the form from for £4. I reccomend you do this. It means they cant get lost in the post.
As for the lessons. A good figure is £20-25 per hour of tuition.
I reccomend the AA driving school.
http://www.theaa.com/drivingschool/index.html
I passed in 4 months with them with one 2 hour lesson a week. It cost me £48 a week and it cost me £1000 roughly, with all the test fees as well. Heres information about both the theory test and practical test -
http://www.dsa.gov.uk/Cars.asp
Here is the test fees -

Everyone is different however. I knew a person that took nearly 2 years with one lesson a week. It all depends on your ability to take it in.
Its worth remembering that you get what you pay for. You might find lessons for £15 an hour. It will probably be a false economy though.
Use the AA. You get a decent Ford Focus to drive.
You can also learn with someone you know who is over 21, has had a car licence for 3 years and the car has insurance for you to learn and has L plates and is roadworthy.
The insurance should cost about £600-£700 but it depends on where you live and the car. It may help you learn quicker but it will not be cheaper in the long run.
Hope that helps.

On average you will need at least one lesson for every year of your age. lesson costs vary from school to school so ask around. Have you got access to a car if so get some practise in with a friend in the passenger seat ( must hold a proper full licence not a provisional with permission to drive without supervision there is a difference between the two). Someone said £20 per lesson ( usually an hour) so if you are 30years of age £600 plus unless you are lucky and a quick leaner. Once you have passed your test you then start to learn to drive. You will understand this about a year after you have passed the test. good luck

If you buy lessons in bulk they're significantly cheaper, and you might aswell since an average driver require around 40 lessons to pass their test. A lesson on its own is usually about £22, but if you buy a pack of ten, it's more like £17 a lesson.
