Its found on the underside "chin" like..the mouth/jaw, pointy part. Some of the black stuff is attatched to her hair and some appears to be down at the skin. If I hold her still and rub at it a bit some of it comes off. She doesnt appear to be in any pain when the area if touched. Again, shes an indoor cat, thanks

Feline acne can be cleared up by changing the food bowls. Shift to glass or ceramic instead of plastic, and use low sided ones or just a flat plate. The acne comes from when a cat has to rub his chin into the food to get to it or grab a piece by pushing it against the side of a bowl. Eliminate the sides, and you eliminate the chin rubbing into food. They can't easily clean the underside of their chin so it often gets that black stuff on it and puffs up or causes pimples there.

It's feline acne! Believe it or not, cats do get acne and it looks like black dirt under their chins. To get rid of it, just wash with a warm washcloth. It's not a problem for the cats really, never seems to bother them in my experience. You can also use a human acne cream on it if it gets really bad. Just make sure the main ingredient is Benzoyl Peroxide and wash it off thoroughly when you are done. Swap their bowls- make sure they are using a ceramic bowl. Some cats have allergies to plastic which can cause feline acne. If it is really severe, the vet can give oral antibiotics to clear it up.

If it's feline acne giving her chin scratches will loosen and remove it. Since most cats like having their chins scratched, it's the easiest way to deal with it.

One of our cats got this. It was indeed feline acne, but I think you've figured it out already. Ours went away on it's own. I was told that some cats have allergic reactions to plastic, and it's not a bad idea to change the food and water bowls to ceramic or stainless steel if you haven't already.

Probably feline acne. Try cleaning with 3% hydrogen peroxide, available at pharmacy.
