Why do captains of passanger airplanes ask you to keep your safty belts fastened right after the landing? Have you heard about a recent explosion of an airplane in Japan? It exploded after the landing was completed. Luckily all the passengers were able to escape from the ailrplane by the time of explosion. A friend of mine who was right there in that airplane told me that they sensed some smoke long before the explosion - while they were still in their seats. He said one woman was so terrified by the smoke, she freaked out, sat down right in the middle of the aisle and wouldn't move, so people had to carry her out of the airplane to let others behind her leave the airplane. Can you imagine if she were in such a state while still in her seat with her safty belts fastened? I think she would have been a victim then.

Emergencies can happen even on the runway or on the way to the terminal. People start getting their stuff out of overhead storage as soon as possible. Should there be an abrupt stop on the way to the terminal, people would be flying all over the cabin.

and to protect them in case they were to have an accident on the runway.

they ask you to keep your seat belts on so you don't get out of your seat and sit down on the floor
