My old hard disk with Windows XP on it crapped out, and I do not want to reinstall and fix it myself. I am planning to buy a new hard disk and install windows XP from the same CD that I used to install XP on my old Hard disk. Will there be any Problems? Will there be prompts for any drivers?

You shoulding have any problems with a new install, just follow the prompts, normally takes about an hour or so. It all the updates that will take more time to download and install. If you have addtional programs to load, this is a good time to installed them.

I cleaned off my hard drive and re-installed my Windows XP without problems. Generally the Windows XP CD walks you through what you need to do. Once you've installed your XP and put your other software on your machine, go to your hardware websites to download any updated drivers - very important but not difficult. If you want to know what all you have on your machine before you uninstall it - meaning registration numbers, etc., go to Belarc.com and download Belarc Advisor (it's free) and it will tell you what all you have on your machine, including version numbers. You can print it out and keep it handy in case you ever have to talk with a tekkie and don't know how much RAM, what kind of hardware you have on your machine, etc. That printout will also tell you if you have the latest patches and fixes for your Windows. You will need to download all the Windows updates since the date of the CD so plan on giving it a day to do everything.

It's fairly easy. Setup guides you through all the process.
Just make sure you know how to boot the computer with the CD. You have the change the booting sequence to your CD drive. Although, you can do it with a press of a key with latest computers now a days.
You can check from the internet if your hardware devices have XP compatible drivers. But if your computer is fairly new, 1/2 years old, I think XP will take care of their drivers by itself.

You will need the drivers for your motherboard and possibly a SATA driver if your hard drive is SATA.

Also, you will have to activate windows again which may mean a phone call to Micro$oft but it will give you full instructions on the screen about what phone number to call and this huge number you will have to give to the automated phone process.
