So I'm making DVDs on my computer. They play on my computer and they play in one dvd player we have, but they don't play in our other DVD player. Why?

Could be any of the reasons below.

You use DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW discs and your DVD player has no firmware that supports these formats.
You did not finalize your disc.
You used variable rate bit rate control (VR).

DVD players need only to recognize DVD-ROM discs recorded in DVD-video format (however, most new players do recognize multiple formats)

The lasers used to read burned DVD discs have to be slightly more powerful then the ones used to read stamped discs (retail DVD's) this results in DVD players that are DVD+-R compliant, some older units are not DVD+-R compliant and lack the enhanced diode so they have trouble reading the dye layer of the disc that stores yoru data in yoru case probably video this is not a new concept though this problem had similar qualities in CD players when CD Burners first came on to the market, unfortunately there is little you can do about this other then update the DVD player to a newer model.
