The link didnt fix the problem still says it needs a codec.

ill give you a link. it works perfect. downoad and install. somewhere it will say register with windows media. make sure its checked.

AVI is a file container that supports multiple video codecs.
If these are divx files (most probably) you will need to download a divx codec from divx.com.
If not, you need to find and download the appropriate codec, usually available from the place you downloaded the file.
