I forget which country in Africa still allows non resident spear hunting, their also one middle eastern country that permits spear hunting. I think it would be fun too, sort of like going back in time to see how our ancestors did it centurys ago. I think that's part of the appeal to bow hunters, they've got a time tested weapon that predates the earliest firearms, and they go out and walk and stalk hunt their game usually, just like our ancestors did.

Back in the good old days when folks just had knives and spears, that was the accepted way of hunting. Due to the lack of skill in using such instruments today, I would guess that would be an inhumane way to kill an animal.
If you were successful in hitting the animal. the most you could do was to wound it, and in the case cited by the other poster, torture it until it dies. A clean, one shot kill with the appropriate weapon is the best way.
Legal?, maybe. Sporting? Definitely. But, if you wish to live to hunt again, don't go that way.

Yes in some places in the world, but remember those people 'a long time ago' were usually hunting in packs themselves. No one took big or medium game by themselves with a spear.
Animals won;t just hang around letting you get close enough to put a spear in them generally, or fall over because you manage to do it, even hit through the heart and lungs. They can run for ages till they bleed out, maybe right over the top of you...
That was the whole idea of herding or driving the game and multiple spear throwers, increasing your chance of success/survival.
Take a look at youtube footage of a heap of africans spearing a hippo or older footage if you can find it same thing with a buffalo. I think there is about 20 of them throwing over and over. The animal looks like a pin cushion and finally dies of exhaustion or shock later in the day. In the buffalos case it stomped quite a few of them before it expired.

I know for a fact there are several states here in the U.S.that will allow Spear Hunting, but to be honest, I have never heard or seen anyone foolish enough to hunt Bear with one. Deer,Wild Pigs... YES, but not Bear. You need to check your local Department of Natural Resources office to find out if it's legal in your state and what the restrictions are. Good Luck

Yes it is legal in some places in the U.S for some animals. I think it would be quite impressive if you took a deer. Just be confident you can take whatever animal you are trying to take. You can turn a noble sporting opportunity into a sick inhumane experience by not practicing and taking iffy shots
good luck. Don't buy a spear run out into the woods and throw it at a deer.

IT is legal in a few states, but i would imagine its illegal for a few animals like bears! thats a littel stupid, do you really know what they can do to you if you throw a spear and injure it or miss it and piss it off? It will shred you in a half second.
