In truth, I don't believe in the soul, and as such, much of what has been given as an answer here seems to me to be absolutely meaningless. However, I recognize that other people DO believe in the soul, so I'll submit it to a vote. My own vote, though, will be for "no best answer."

I think it is in every cell, and all through the body. That's why people have what is called an astral body which looks like a translucent version of the solid body. Sometimes these are mistaken for ghosts, and sometimes they become ghosts.

The term Soul means different things to different people, and some treat it as if it's basically the same as Mind or Will. If that's the case, then we would normally figure it lives in the brain. And if so, probably in the pineal gland, because of its central location and otherwise pretty mysterious function.

I figure it is in the entire body, but focuses in the pineal.

Satan's purpose in making false doctrines is to confuse thinking. Your question has so many false doctrines it's no wonder you have questions. Man IS a soul. SOULS DIE! Eze 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall DIE. Sins have consequences. It is those consequences that are passed from generation to generation. Adam and Eve, instead of asking God and letting Him lead their lives, DECIDED for themselves right and wrong. By example they taught their children to do that. Pro 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Pro 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. So we're not being held responsible for what THEY did, but what WE DO. That's why we're supposed to repent and follow God's law. we're supposed to make the RIGHT choice.

I don't think there is an particular place. It is the essence of who we are.

Think of a book as your body. All of the pages inside make the book. The story is the essence of it.

I believe the soul is unaffected by the physical body. A Down's person has an intact soul who chose to live this lifetime as a Down's person. After the soul returns home when the body dies, all the lessons that soul learned will be realized.

Your body is the soul. The soul that is sinning it it's self will die.
Or in Genesis 1:21 speaks of every soul in the water. So fish ever are called souls.
Genesis 2:7 God blew into his nostrels the breath of life and man came to be a living soul.

so then the reverse would be true, if that breath of life was gone he would cease being a living soul.
So the soul doesn't reside in the body, the body is the soul.
It is the spirit from God that makes the power to keep us going. So spirit is power. Soul is the physical body.

I remember reading something pretty interesting related to this somewhere. Something about neurons which bridge the gap between mental stuff and physical stuff. Ill be back, when im done with my research.

Kay im pretty sure your a monist, so i wont watse my time talking about the implication of monism/dualism and the whole mental/physical debate.

Anyway, while material dualism seems like a poorly thought out idea, it has been thought out before. Couldnt find the same site I found the last time, and for the life of me, I cant remember the name of the neurons which were thought to bridge the mental and physical realms.

Here are some pretty lousy sites you might want to look at, if your free. They really dont say much.

I think the 'soul' (or consciousness, as i prefer to call it) doesn't really reside, per se. It's an occurrence, not an object. Think of it like the Web. It doesn't reside anywhere really. It's an electrical phenomena. If all the electrical power in the world would be cut off, the web would cease to exist... even if some chips still had bits stored in memory, it doesn't exist as an entity anymore.

growing up in a religious world, I assumed we had spirit, soul, body, and a guaranteed afterlife

one by one I have removed my blind faith and only know of Self, or me and cannot describe or give a name to my subconcious, my heart, or my will to live but won't give it a name and treat it as a separate aspect of Me

The soul is the whole body, but it is often referred to as the heart.

In MY opinion, IF there was such a thing as a "soul",
it would be located in one's AS$-SOUL!!!
