Depends if you like your side or front profile. I like the answers above, it doesn't really matter, personally I'd rather face my date on the first few times.

I always feel more comfortable sitting next to him, assuming we're having dinner because I hate having someone watch my face when I eat lol at least for the first date!

anyway you can sit facing or next to.. next to makes u more comfortable.. facing is more romantic .. I prefer next to.
