2 Va. counties OK immigration crackdown By SARAH KARUSH, Associated Press Writer
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070825/ap_on_re_us/illegal_immigrants_services

Ines Olivia Martinez wonders if her family will be denied medical care. Even her mentally disabled 13-year-old son has been anxiously pointing out police cars amid fears of a local crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Resolutions to deny a potentially wide range of public services to illegal immigrants have thrust two northern Virginia counties into the nation's immigration debate. The measures passed in July in Prince William and Loudoun counties join a flurry of recent efforts by local governments nationwide that believe the federal government has not done enough to stop illegal immigration.

The northern Virginia measures are also likely to face legal challenges. The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, which advocates on behalf of Latinos and other minority groups, has threatened to sue Prince William County. Other groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union, say they fear service restrictions will result in discrimination, but are waiting to see how the crackdown will be implemented before taking legal action.

Critics say the resolutions are a racist reaction to profound demographic changes in Prince William and Loudoun, two of the fastest-growing counties in the Washington area. Together, the counties account for 8 percent of Virginia's population, with more than 600,000 residents.

According to census estimates released this month, Prince William's Hispanic population has more than doubled since 2000, to nearly 70,000 last year. Non-Hispanic whites account for a little more than half of the population, down from about two-thirds in 2000. In Loudoun, the share of minorities increased from 20 percent to 32 percent.
For Martinez — who has lived in Manassas, in Prince William County, for two years — the resentment against illegal immigrants came as a surprise.

"It broke my heart," the 41-year-old Mexico City native said of the measure. "We were all thinking there would be an amnesty" declared by the federal government.

Deane said the measure could diminish immigrants' trust in police and make them reluctant to cooperate as witnesses. He also said denying recreational services could lead to a rise in the number of young people turning to crime.

Martinez said some of her friends and relatives have moved out of Prince William County because of the measure. Others are gearing up for a fight.

Hispanic activists are planning a weeklong boycott of all nonimmigrant, non-Hispanic businesses in Prince William County beginning Monday and a one-day general labor strike in October.

"We came to better ourselves as human beings because we also want a better life for our children," said Rocio Martinez-Lopez, 35, Martinez's sister. "People say, `We're going to another state.' I tell them, `No, we have to fight.'"

I live in one of the counties, no lie. My biggest concern is the crime they have brought. You can see in the local paper (http://www.potomacnews.com/), in the local crime reports it is just one hispanic name after another. My second major concern is the costs to taxpayers, especially homeowners, of the strain on our schools, hospitals, etc. If you don't like the way we're trying to fix things in Virginia, please send me your address and I'll ask a bunch of them to move to your area.

It's just another item to report that might be of interest to some people, won't become anything. There is the old saying you closed the barn door after the horse got out. The problem with illegal imagination is that our Government is changing everything to suit their needs, so how are you going to stop anything illegal. These people coming into the U.S. know how and are getting support at the expense of all the tax payers and our older U.S. citizens that are having a hard time because of the high cost of living. There is no limit as to what these immigrants are receiving upon demand with the help of special interest groups and our Government Politics. Our Social Security System is at the point that within the next 10 years there will be payments reduced or no funds available to certain people that were born and worked in the United States. Wake up protesters, this is something you can get alot of support to get resolved.

1-Because we have a fear of being called racist, and in most cases calling someone of something racsit works.

2-None, but try telling them that

3-They are under the impression that we like them being here. 82% of this country don't want illegals here and don't want them having amnesty

4-They are lied to by their leaders.

I am so glad Prince William and Louden do this. I live in Arlington County(15-20 minutes away in no traffic from Manassas) and hope they do that. I feel like I am living in Mexico City, nobody speaks english, and right down the street they hang out infront of McDonalds asking everyone that pulls up if they have work. I hate it.

Also, the hispanic community is planning a 1-day work strike, whatever that day is, most companies should have a 1 day hiring fair. They should then fire everone who missed work the day before. (Virginia is an at-will state, you can fire anyone for any reason)

I'm travelling to Prince William Co to shop this week. What a week! No illegals to worry about! I'm taking a carload of teens and dropping them off at Potomac Mills Mall. It will be a LOT safer next week without all the illegals hanging around. I'm going to offer to take the neighbor's kids too! We'll make it a whole week of shopping for school clothes and lunches. Way to go Prince William!

Here's a real laugh...illegals don't shop at American owned stores if they can avoid it anyway. Their "tiendas" have sprung up everywhere and THAT is where they shop.
*****edit****
When the "work stoppage" is due, employers should collect the names and addresses of everyone who doesn't show up for work that day, and send it to ICE. Let's help them when we can!

"Hispanic activists are planning a weeklong boycott of all nonimmigrant, non-Hispanic businesses in Prince William County"

Ha, who are the racists? Criminals thrive on the indulgence of society's understanding. Luckily it seems finally some action will be taken against these lawbreakers!

diminish immigrants' trust?
Immigrants have no fear, illegal aliens should leave.
It's happening all over the country, just wait until they all go to santuary cities.Newark is now changing their position of santuary. How about we give them a bus ride to Mexico.
How dare they make demands in our country.

Their boycotts have accomplished nothing in the past, I doubt that it will accomplish anything this time around.
