Isn't that odd? Almost all were catholic, and the others were another form of christianty. How come there has never been a Buddahist to run, or a Jew, or Muslim, or Pagan, or Atheist, or Wiccan, to run???

Almost NONE were true Christians. They were politically pandering by saying they are. Now suddenly Hillary is a "christian"? Don't be so gullible.

Actually, only one president has been Catholic: JFK. Most of the others have been protestant Christian, although among the early presidents we had some deists.

Most of this country is Christian. Odds are most presidents are going to follow that statistic. You find it odd that only Christians have been president, but what about women, who are slightly more than half the population? The fact is we've still got ideas on what makes a good president, and that's a white, protestant man.

We have had at least one Jew run in the primaries: Joe Lieberman, who then ran for vice president.

Pagans and Wiccans are a very small percentage of our population, and they've only been around for 50 years, so that shouldn't be surprising at all.

Actually, Kennedy was the only Catholic, and that in and of itself was a bit of a hubub at the time.

Given the percentages of Christians vs. non-Christians in the country, I can't say as I'm terribly surprised. Especially since there's a number of self-proclaimed Christians who consider it their civic and religious duty to prevent a non-Christian from being elected to any position, let alone President.

All of the groups you have mentioned are relatively small minorities compared to the Christian denominations (combined totals) in this country. Although Joseph Leiberman WAS Jewish, he failed to muster enough to win his party at the convention in 2004.

For the poster that said he thought it would be illegal for an atheist or pagan candidate to be elected, as long as the candidate is over 35 and a native-born citizen of the US he or she is elegible according to the Constiturion, which does not have a clause indicating that ANY religion is mandated.

Jefferson was a deist. There is evidence that Lincoln was an atheist. Only one, Kennedy, was a Catholic.

"Almost all were catholic!?" only one was catholic, JFK, he is the only catholic president in US history.
Besides that, anybody can claim and act outwardly like a 'Christian' and that is want most presidents had to do, because they knew they had to to get into office. It is always just to further their political agenda, it has nothing really to do with God.

Bigotry, plain and simple. Christians don't believe in voting for non-christians or people that differ from them too much.

Only a few have been Christian, to be Christian you must follow the ways of Christ, liars, murders, slave owners, adulterers and war-mongers are not Christian. You can call yourself anything, but it's your choices that make you what you are.
