I posted a question/challenge earlier (you can look it up if you wish). The response that hit me the most was an accusation that I'm not perfect. Well, I'm not. I'm a sinner 'till the day I die. What sets me apart and makes me a new creation is my devout belief in Jesus Christ, the one and only Son of God. By devout, I mean that I truly believe what I say I do. Yes, I am weak, I make mistakes, and I sin. Any 'Christian' who says they don't are plainly put, phonies. I am truly sorry for any non-believer who has walked into a Church and been shunned. That IS wrong. I am truly sorry for those who have been talked about behind their backs. I will admit, I am guilty of doing that on occasion. No it's not something I'm proud of, but with God's help, I will do it less and less. You see, sins can be very bad habits, and they're hard to break.

And yes, I have studied many other religions (and there are more than 25), BEFORE I was a Christian. So no, I'm not entirely ignorant.

I agree with you and feel the same way you do. We have to start with the man/woman in the mirror looking back at us. As Christians, We have no right to judge, criticize or put others down. We need to work out our own salvation. I never have understood why some Christians are so obsessed with other people's walk with God. I hate hypocrisy and anyone who blatantly practices hypocrisy is not a true Christian.

Of course being a Christian doesn’t make you terrible!
I judge people by their character and how they treat others.
It just so happens that most so-called Christians I have heard speak here do so with a great deal of contempt for their fellow man and not an ounce of empathy toward others.

I have met *true* Christians and they sound nothing like
That. While I don't believe in a God I respect Christians who use their faith for good and not as a security blanket or a platform to lift themselves up.

So many loving and accepting people are not Christians and they help others and love deeply without consulting a book on how they should treat people.
These people help others because they want to not because they are seeking a place in heaven.
Yet Christians will tell you that they (Christians) don’t have to be good people, they don't have to do anything other than declare Jesus Christ as their lord, and it's a ticket straight to the pearly gates, and everyone else, all those good and decent non-Christians can burn in hell.

I've never understood the following: practically speaking, what is the difference between living as a Christian "in sin" and living as a non believer with ethics based on common sense?

Are we to believe that Christians are statistically more moral than non Christians, especially atheists? I understand the key difference is that you believe you are saved by grace, and that works do not save, "lest men boast". But can observers of human behavior discern a difference? I think not.

Another point is this: I think many use religion as an excuse to slander those that do not share their beliefs. Calling someone "satanic" or "condemned" in our society is tantamount to deriding their character. It is truly slander.

I respect your beliefs, but I take issue with believers that think they're morally superior to the rest of us. Nobody's perfect. We're guilty of this too sometimes.

.Peace

If you are a true Christian, you are not terrible. It is the Christians who believe that their way is the only way to Heaven that give Christians a bad name. If you live as Jesus lived, embrace all people regardless of any "sin" associated to them, then you are a true Christian and not so terrible after all.

No, just ignorant of the truth. Christianity is a lie. Your faith is based on the pagan religions that existed prior to the Bible being written. Christians in general never question why they are Christians - that is ignorant. The remaining Christians are delusional.

it is your religion that condemns you as a sinner, not your God, if you believe in him, as you do, only he can judge you, NOT, your religion.
if you have studied religion, as I, you must realize that religion has nothing to do with God. the Bible was penned by man, 150-200 yrs after the fact, and is mans way of keeping you from the real truth.
believe in God, drop the religion, then you might see the real truth of the bible.

Not all Christians are terrible. The only ones I have a problem with are the ones who try to push their beliefs onto you even when you kindly say that you're not interested.

It all depends on how you treat others. If you are judgemental, unkind, "holier than thou", unforgiving, and aren't willing to understand another and walk in their shoes, you have missed the Christ's message. Look at the way he ACCEPTED those who were not acceptable to his current culture. Live your life as he lived his. Forgiving, understanding and accepting. And allowing them to find their path when He had show them His path.

I'm a Christian. I screw up all the time. That doesn't make me less of a Christian. And I don't give a fig leaf what anyone has to say about that.

Well said. Regrettably there are many people in church congregations who believe they are Christians but are not.
This will always be the case.
