I was thinking some grilled carrots, onions, celery and sweet potato, baked chicken and lots of water. Then a banana and coffee, maybe some yogurt tomorrow? What's better?

Those are very good ideas. Be certain that you don't eat to many foods that will cause an excess flatulance..ie fruits and vegetables. I might stay away from the yougart on the day of the race.

The night before I would eat some pasta(small serving) maybe a small salad or vegetables with plenty of fluids the remainer of the evening.

In the morning at least 2 maybe 3 hours before the race what I like to eat is a piece of toast with peanut butter and a bannana with your coffee and water. I will even have a part of a powerbar as well. The peanutbutter and bananna will put some pottasium into your body an help avoid any muscle cramps.

Think about some fluid replacement drinks such as Gateraide or Poweraid about an hour before the race.

Remember to hydrate after the race and get a power bar or something like that to eat soon after the race.

Good Luck and let me know how you do in the race!

Never try anything new on race day, as said above that is the golden rule of running races (and most sporting events). So what do you normally eat the morning before a run? If you usually have a fry up 10 minutes before then do that, if you usually have a mouthful of yogurt 4 hours before then do that. A 5K is not a race of such duration that special nutritional strategies were needed (its too late now if they were anyway) so don't worry about what you should eat just eat what you normally would before a training run.

From my perspective your meal sounds fine as it is a good balanced meal that should fill you up; I don't know about your breakfast for the reason that I prefer big breakfasts and run fine on them, if its a similar breakfast to what usually have ten I'm sure thats fine too.

Hydration is a very important thign as you've mentioned, keep well hydrated today and tomorrow. Just before the race drink a glass of water in the last 10-15mins, then you should be fine until after the race, but again if you usually drink throughout such a run then perhaps do that.

It is a 5K which is not long and you do not need any extra energy or special food. Eat something light that will not be sitting on your stomach tomorrow. In the morning you should know what you can and can not do. I do not eat anything before morning races and am not hungry or lack energy. So what worked for you the last race? If you did not have any problems just stay with what works.

Eat a lot of carbs for dinner and just a snack or light breakfast in the morning.

The rule when racing is never do something different before the race. So in your case eat what you would normally eat. don't experiment, because if you try something you've not tried before your body may react esp when running and you'll feel worse.

Good luck

you should eat something high in protein for dinner tonight, like steak. tomorrow eat something that won't upset your stomach, like a bagel, and have some water too to keep yourself hydrated. don't drink coffee. the caffeine is really bad to have before a race. also, don't eat any fruit or have fruit juice, because the citric acid will really upset your stomach. also, for future races, carbs, like pasta, are a great thing to have two nights before a race, with lots of protein on the night before.

Load up on carbs the night before and be careful what you eat in the morning. It depends on whether you have a weak stomach or not
