I have no memories of being molested. I have been going through therapy and was asked to give my bad feelings a color........they would be dark green, kind of like camoflauge.....and my uncle hunts. But when he and i were in a room alone when I was a teen, I got almost sick to my stomach. I dont want to just ask my parents.....Hey, was i ever molested?.....that's kinda odd!!!.........Just curious as to anyone's thoughts. I'm just trying to figure out where some of my past depression is stemming from.........what is going on with me..............

It's very possible to know without knowing. That is, you don't specifically remember anything, but you have a lot of traits common to childhood sexual abuse (CSA), and a serious gut level questioning. Common traits are depression for no known reason, strong physical reactions like the one you describe about you uncle, a propensity to dissociate (feelings of unrealness), experiencing fear and/or anxiety to certain situations that can't be explained, avoiding places and situations because they make you uncomfortable for no known reason, etc. All of this, however, is not conclusive. It's also possible that you weren't molested, but scared. Maybe your uncle was involved; maybe it was something else. Perhaps you will remember something specific; maybe you won't. What matters most is that you grow as a person and come to accept yourself as you are today. Cheers to you for doing therapy. It can be a very challenging experience, but one with many rewards if you stick with it. Btw, if your therapist is insisting your depression stems from abuse, get a new therapist. No one can know and a good therapist listens without judgment and does not tell one their history. At the same time, a high percentage of people seeking therapy did experience some form of abuse when they were young. Acknowledging the possibility is different than 'leading you down a dangerous road'.

Yes, I think it's possible because I was. For several years from a close member of the family. I did not remember until I was about 16 in the 11th grade of high school when my psychology teacher said something that triggered the memory. However, if you're not sure, I heard that sometimes, therapy can make you think things that may or may not be true. The mind and body are interesting, however, because even before I recalled the incident(s), I suffered from heavy depression and I'm a senior in college now and have been seeking therapy for a year (I stopped taking meds) and it has really helped.

Don't get caught up in the false memory syndrome. To many lives have been ruined by people "remembering" things that didn't happen. Remember the Roseanne thing. She said so many things about her family, and she has turned out to be a nut. Then there was the preschool thing years ago, that ruined so many lives. It was proved to be false Just because you felt ill when you were in a room alone with your uncle does not mean that he did anything. If he doesn't act inappropriately, don't worry.
Depression is something that happens and there is not always a specific reason, possibly many and a chemical imbalance than meds can help.
This color crap, I believe, is just that, crap. Lets face it, camouflage is not exactly pretty. Some people actually have reactions to color just because they don't particularly like that color.
Mental Health help is good if you have a good therapist. If someone wants you to rack your brain constantly, I believe that's not help but a hindrance. A professional is supposed to help you go forward not backwards. Just my opinions.

Is it possible? Sure. Anything is possible.

It's also possible that your therapist is leading you down a dangerous path that leads to absolutely nowhere.

Sometimes depression is just that: depression. It doesn't necessary "stem" from anything in your childhood other that genetic predisposition.

Your association with nausea and camophlage could be as simple as a love for animals/hatred for hunting.

You are treading in dangerous waters here. Take care not to accuse the innocent unjustly.

It is a VERY dangerous game to think that your depression is "stemming from" an event in your past. I would seriously concider switching to a new therapist ASAP.

Real, clinical depression is caused by an inbalance of brain chemicals. That is why people take SSRIs (selective seretonin reuptake inhibitors) for it. It can run in families (as it does in mine), but not always.

i heard that as we grow up we unconsciously forget bad memories from the past, it's one of our coping mechanisms to deal with unsavory experiences. thats why its possible that you were molested as a child.

to find out u can consult a shrink.

If you can remember being in a room with your uncle and being sick at the time, you would certainly remember being molested. You are overeaching a bit here.

I think you would remember. Unfortunately, you seem to be a prime candidate for "false memory syndrome". It can destroy your life. Be very careful. http://www.fmsfonline.org/
