At that time of year you are asking for the impossible. Only a hostel would be that cheap then. From Thanksgiving through New Years is the busiest, most expensive time to travel here and the hotels know it. Even a cheap hotel like Holiday Inn will be $300 a night during that time. The traditional cheapest hotels here like the Pennsylvania, Edison, etc. will be at least $200 and are likely to be close to full by now.

Well, considering that even a bunk in a youth hostel in NYC can cost as much as $100 a night, why not stay at one of the hotels offered by the NY Inns Hotel Group (see link, below). They have three very nice hotels in the Murray Hill (near Times Square), Union Square (near the East and West Village) and Upper West Side (near Lincoln Center and Central Park) neighborhoods, and the rooms are nice, the service is good, and they're affordable, too! Check out the link below to see their webpage, and, no, I don't work for them or anything like that, I'm just a fan. Good luck, and welcome to the Big Apple!!

They dont exist in NY...you can probably find something with a shared bathroom about the size of a closet for that price. Check the standard websites, orbitz, hotwire, and travelocity.

Maybe if you stay in a hotel in one of the outer boroughs (Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island or Queens) of if you stay in NJ, it might be almost possible.
