Not really. Your parents are actually being smart on this issue. All knowledge is perishable; you tend to lose it if you don't use it. Starting at your age is too soon and by the time you are ready to start using the knowledge you will have forgotten most of it.

Hold off until you are old enough to actually start putting the knowledge to use on the road where it will benefit you the most.

You should expain to your parents that you will be taking the driver's ed class at school, just like any other course. It will prepare you to be a better and safer driver in the future. Tell them that you do not intend to get a car or a license until you feel confident enough to do it. 17 years old is good to start driving. They may feel they are protecting you by stopping you from driving, but in fact your friends may be worse drivers than you. They may not have taken the driver's ed safety course at school, and you will be riding in their cars because you don't have a license to drive. Good Luck, parents are tough to convince. Tell them that I am a father who wrote this and I allowed my son to drive at 16 years old because that was the law in my state at that time. He is a good driver today.
