I'm doing a project and I chose to read to kids at a library. Does anyone know where I can find a library that allows teens to do that?

Head over to http://www.library.nashville.org/index.asp for a look at the Nashville Public Library system.

And here is information on the kids story times: http://www.library.nashville.org/kids/kid_story.asp

Hi! Ask at the front circulation desk. They should direct you to the someone who can help you. Tell them that other city public libraries have teen reading groups. You would be a great moderator! In my public library, teens have been involved with Harry Potter reading groups all summer, science tech/gaming, Fahrenheit ---? discussions, just about any subject... I wish you well! Just tell the librarian that other cities are doing this and you'd also like the opportunity.

You really might have better luck volunteering to be a school mentor, or find out if any school has a book buddy program that pairs up an older child with a younger, struggling reader. In my experience, public libraries prefer to do their own storytimes because, quite frankly, teenage volunteers are notoriously unreliable and generally are not mature enough to conduct a storytime for a roomful of toddlers or preschoolers. Please note that I am not judging YOU.

If you MUST read to kids at a library, see if any elementary school libraries will allow you to come in and read to a class of Kindergarteners. They are very forgiving. :)

Good luck!
