It totally depends on your pain tolerance! I don't do good with pain although tats don't really bother me! I have a butterfly on my foot and it really didn't hurt that much while I was getting it done - but it did hurt after wards for a few days! Make sure you try to wear shoes that won't touch it if at all possible! Good Luck !!

While getting one of my tattoos a girl walked in who had a recently done foot tattoo. Her entire foot was so swollen, she could hardly wear a flip flop, let alone a shoe. It had been a few days since she had gotten the tattoo. My artist is very good (award winning and backed by a Medical Doctor) so I asked after he left why she was having such a hard time healing.
He said that foot tattoos are the most painful, the slowest to heal, and wear the fastest. He says that he will guarantee all of his work, except for foot tattoos. Hearing that made me decide never to get one, even though I think they are really cute.
Though I do not have one on my foot, I have one that extends almost onto my foot, and the closer he got to the foot the more painful it got. Some places are more sensitive/painful than others and pain tolerance does have a lot to do with it. So does the artists techinique.
Hope I didn't talk you out of it, I think you will be fine if you have a good pain tolerance and a good artist.
Good Luck!

Generally a good guideline with tattoos is areas with more subQ fat are going to be a bit less painful. The foot has little to no fat and in some places very close to bone an experienced artist will pull the flesh as best as they can to stretch it such a manner it doesn't go so close to the bone but remember how deep the needles go and look at places on your foot. SO yes and NO and Maybe it depends on you your artist and other factors such as how tense you are etc. Some artists will not do feet I am one of them. I stop above the ankle above the wrist bone and above the collar. I loose some business but its my check and my money and my art there are other artists close by who will do it no problem. Also if you have circulation probs such as diabetes or PAD this can hamper healing. But on a scale of one to ten in pain I would say a foot might be a 4 as compared to a 2.5 no the side of the arm. or the 5 that you get on the ribcage ( solar plexus region) Good luck.

It all depends on your pain tolerance in that particular area. I have a foot tattoo, and although it wasn't exactly a pleasant feeling, I have to say it really wasn't that bad. Only you can tell whether or not it hurts...I've heard all kinds of stories about the feet, ranging from "the worst pain ever" to "didn't even feel it." Good luck!

The actual pain during the tattoo could vary from person to person depending upon pain tolerance. However I have a high pain tolerance, and my foot tattoo is the most painful one I've had.

You may have soreness afterward, and there will be swelling. You want to try to keep your foot elevated as often as possible in order to reduce swelling.

i have had both of the tops of my feet tattooed. i have a high pain tolerance but that doesn't mean that i don't feel pain. both of my foot tattoos hurt very very very badly. worse than 90% of my full back tattoo. in my opinion the longer a tattoo takes the more it hurts. mine each took over 2 hours.

!! please know that you are not supposed to wear shoes or socks AT ALL for a full two weeks after getting your feet tattooed. so if you can't commit to wearing flip flops only you shouldn't get the tattoo right now because it could heal horribly.

It is one of the more painful locations. Main reason, no fat to absorb the blows against the bone. The real issue I've seen is the inability to walk or swelling of the foot/feet for a few days afterword. It's bearable but annoying. Just make sure you clear a few days in your schedule can heal.

exactly i totaly think its on the person if they can handle pain a little better then usual. I mean your foot :-( that is literally right on the bone soo that may be painful. I would think. but they do a lot of really cute things such as tattoos on the foot

Any place on your body that doesn't have much meat between the bone and the skin will hurt.

Also, please don't get a star or a flower. Those are so overdone. Get something unique, and you will like it better--trust me, I know.

Also, with the "fat feet" thing, if you are concerned about your feet looking fatter, then just steer clear of round designs, like hearts, flowers, and cherries.

I had been told the exact same thing.....I got it anyway (I love it!!) It was one of the least painful tatts that I have ever gotten. Don't really know why they say it hurts. I have seven tatts and the ones on the back of my shoulders hurt the worst. Would have to say the one on my foot, virtually painless.

Have fun!!

What are you having done??
