I mentioned in passing that soy milk gave me diarrhea and this girl said to stop drinking it immediately because I'm allergic to it. She said I would not have gotten diarrhea if I wasn't allergic to it, and the only time you get diarrhea is when you are allergic to something.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, but just in case, I thought I would ask.

I eat and drink soy products all the time - this was the only time it caused me to get sick. Seems only this brand was responsible, as I usually get another kind.

Diarrhea can be an indicator of a food allergy but it is not a definite sign. Diarrhea is most commonly caused by viral or bacterial toxins. Most people experience diarrhea, caused by these viral or bacterial toxins, at least once or twice a year. Many people tend to attribute the cause of their diarrhea/nausea to the food they ate before they became sick but the food is generally not the cause. If you have eaten soy products before and after then your diarrhea was most likely caused by a virus or bacteria.

You can get diarrhea from bacterial or viral infections. Campylobacter is the name of a very common bacteria that causes a large number if infections. You can get it a few different ways -- coming into infected feces of other people or animals, not washing your hands, using the same cutting board for cutting meat like poultry and veggies, etc.

Diarreha is the body's way of getting rid of stuff it dosn't need or want, like a bug or bad food. if can often be a result of eating too much of a food you are not used to eating, (like when you are on vacation) or a food you are sensitive to, not actually allergic. You could have just had a bad batch of milk.

Soy comes from a bean.. Beans sometimes give alot of gas or diarrhea. Coffee gives me the same problem and it's made from beans.

No. And it's rare that someone gets sick from food, it's often a passing virus. So it probably wasn't even that kind of soy at all, just from something else.

Minor food poisoning can cause diarrhea...maybe the bacteria level in the milk is high and your body can't handle it.
