I have been out of work since last Oct. I can't get out of bed most days. I am ,of course, broke but have no desire to be around people. I have always worked with children or the public but I can't deal with either anymore. No insurance, no money, what can i do?

I have been in similar shoes myself. Luckily I had disability through work. But now I am back to work. Its not easy at all. It will take some work and motivation on your part. I know motivation is something you do not have at this point. Try and exercise. Something as simple as taking a walk can help clear your mind. Try to focus on the nature around you. Also exercise will boost your mood, as your body releases chemicals in your brain. Try not to watch a lot of t.v., Too many bad things on to depress you. Try and do small things around your home, such as dishes, laundry, etc. These small things will give you a sense of accomplishment. I am not a writer, but putting your thoughts in a journal does help some people.
Get out of bed and take a hot shower. It will help to calm you and wake you up for the day. I hope this helps.
I have taken about every brand antidepressant available. These are not a cure. They only make things a little easier.

I hope this helps.

I you can't get out of bed most days, it sounds like your depression is severe enough to require medication.

Try calling Social Services in your area, if you're not sure how to reach them, call one of the local hospitals and ask them if they know of any agencies that help low income people get mental health help.

Why don't you want to take medications? Because you don't have money or because you think it's bad? If it's because you think it's bad, I think you had better get over that way of thinking. How can you be helped if you refuse to accept the only help that will work?

If you are really laying in bed all day because you are depressed, it's very likely you will eventally be taken to a psychiatric hospital involuntarily. It's better if you start seeking help by making some phone calls.

Your county mental health department. Based on your income, or lack there of, you will receive treatment including medication and therapy with a phychologist. It's a good start. Don't waste time. A depression is a serious mental illness, a medical matter not to be ignored.

Everyone will tell you it's nothing to worry about, just get out and run around the block a couple times, drink lots of water, buy some 5-htp, take vitamins b12, folic acid and omega 3;,,,,trust me on this, go to your county mental health department, now.

I am in the same boat as you.

I still force myself to go to work because I must somehow pay my way through life and survive. Otherwise, I wouldn't get out of bed either. I feel this is not living, it is simply surviving, and I see no point in it.

I don't want to be on antidepressants either, but it is possible to find a therapist for little or no cost. I found one at the county mental health clinic in town. Across the country, most county mental health clinics offer sliding scale pay rates, which go off of your income. If you have no income, or your income is only enough to satisfy basic needs, you would pay virtually nothing. Whatever cost you do pay also includes the cost of medication, if you decide to eventually try that. (I hear it cuts years off of therapy).

My therapist really wants to put me on medication but I'm scared to try it. I'm worried the side effects alone will be even worse than the actual illness itself.

Try a county mental health clinic. They exist even in small towns. Sometimes, they can refer you to other services which are completely free.

Have you considered yoga as an alternative to meds? Yoga's postures, controlled breathing and meditation may work together to help ease brains plagued by anxiety or depression, a new study shows.

Brain scans of yoga practitioners showed a healthy boost in levels of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric (GABA) immediately after a one-hour yoga session. Low brain levels of GABA are associated with anxiety and depression, the researchers said.

Your body is lacking the nutrition it needs to repair and rebuild itself and get the energy to get up in the morning and function.
start with a healthy diet with lots of frutis and vegetables. cut out ALL caffiene drinks and get some exercise.
The POWER OF ATTRACTION is a powerfull thing...We are what we think about. if you think you are broke and depressed and can't get work you won't.
start thinking about the perfect job, the great pay, the friends you will meet etc... make a list of everything you want in life and read it aloud every day...
it really works.

You need too talk to somebody face too face , your doctor or priest, family member that is the first thing. talking about a problem really helps. find somebody you can trust somebody who is not going too judge you. What makes you think doctor is going too put you on anti Ds? Go talk too him or her. they might suggest just Counseling. Dont worry about taking medication either, there seems alot of stigma ? about anti Ds , every drug has possible side affects so dont let that worry you. Take care ok and go talk too somebody .
