For Christian churches, the answer to that would be yes. Depending on the church, you may get more than you bargained for : open-arm welcome, invitation to lunch, and a follow-up call asking when you are coming back !!!

As far as I'm aware majority of Churches are open to public. Especially during the service hours.
I would be wary of any that wouldn't be. Just go ahead and visit the church of your choosing :)
