While a lot is being done according to Mr Jello, how long have we been accurately recording the temperature/pressure differences in the earths atmosphere?
Last time I checked, the record high in my region for last week in 1939 was 109 degrees. Last time I checked, there were a lot less fossil fueled vehicles on the road and less factories on the face of the earth in 1939. Last time I checked, this planet has always been heating up and cooling down. How many ice ages do we really know have occurred on this planet?
There have been at least four major ice ages in the Earth's past. Outside these periods, the Earth seems to have been ice-free even in high latitudes. So are we the humans going to be able to tame a planet that has already been known to be ice free in the past?

An intelligent RASE? OK first of all it's "race," although I can forgive a typo.
It doesn't matter how intelligent we are. The earth is HUGE and EMPTY. I wouldn't be surprised at all if cities or other man-made structures cover less than 10% of earth's surface. We make up such a small part of the earth that, one, we couldn't be affecting the earth so drastically, and, two, we can't stop global warming.
But neither do I believe that we need to stop it. Politicians and the mass media use fear to persuade us to do what they want, but there is surprisingly little scientific evidence behind what they say. Just take a look at some of the articles about global warming in, say, National Geographic or Time. They say that there is evidence, but they rarely say what that evidence is. They want us to believe them blindly. And, sadly, many people do believe them without researching both sides of the issue. In fact, many people don't even know that there are two sides, largely due to Al Gore's statement that there is a "scientific consensus" on the issue of anthropogenic global warming. He is saying that, simply because all scientists agree that man is causing the earth to heat up, which they don't, by the way, we all should agree, too.
Well, sorry. Unless they give me a good reason to believe them, I'm not going to take all these drastic, and, in my opinion, pointless, "safety" measures.

Allot of good answers . The best is greed . Yes it is a big business recycling the only problem is the only persons seeing any profits are the rich that run them .They expect you to recycle free then they turn around and sell you the products they made from your recycling . Going green is just insane . You even mention the word green and the price tag jumped $100 bucks because it has a green sticker on it . I don't believe a sticker is worth 100 bucks myself .
Greed greed greed and more greed . We need to take over our lives and stop letting the rich guyed us who needs a pair of $200 dollar sneakers anyway . I know its great to have money and be able to do as you please but is it worth killing the world over. Its not much different then terrorism just a little slower .
Time to change the way we think share the wealth become equal not just say that we are . How can we be equal when there are people starving and homeless man woman and child . How could a child even have a chance to become equal when its born in poverty and dies of starvation before it has a chance to live .
The world is very unfair the only way i can see for it to straiten out is a catastrophe or we the people change it . To hell with the rich there killing us and we are to afraid to appose them out of fear that we may starve . All we are is modern day slaves to the rich . We are no more then cowering nobodys with no hope .

Temperature is not growing at 0.5 degree per year, it is growing at 0.5 degrees per 100 years, as you can see in the source. And we may be intelligent but we are not all powerful. It takes a lot of effort to change the WHOLE WORLD. Such a change would take agreement of all people in the world on a course of action and all people would have to follow that course. It does no good if half the world does one thing and the other half does the opposite. For example, a main cause of all kinds of pollution is the sheer number of people in the world. With a smaller population there would be a smaller impact. But a significant number of people in the world believe it is their cultural right and/or religious duty to have lots of children so that their religious/cultural group can take over the world by outnumbering the others. And if you and I and others of a similar mind keep our families small and those other groups have 10 children each, then they will win and take over the world by outnumbering us. And that is just one example of the kind of problem that we face with global warming or any kind of global problem.

A great deal of global warming is caused by power plants. Renewable sources such as solar and wind is acceptable in the US. If the US becomes receptive to nuclear energy, they should follow France's example - make them all pressurized water type, follow strict safety standards, recycle spent fuel.
The other angles are vehicles and conservation. For vehicles - all new vehicles should be hybrid type. This will cut out all the emissions from vehicles idling in traffic jams.
For conservation - all new homes should be designed to use the solar water heaters. This will reduce the energy consumption used to heat water.
All these are possible.

Greed and stupidity. People are too greedy in making a quick buck, yen or ruble. The companies that are family business are the most successful in changing. They have pride in maintaining their business for future generations. Farming families learn to adapt and be more efficient. Logging and manufacturing families learn to produce with less profit. The companies that have the hardest time changing are the ones who went through the depression and those values are still intact.
The manufactuers and unions have problems.. 50 years ago, most people would have thought about repairing things to make them last. Things were built extremely well. Now it is cheaper to buy new because the quality is not there and they do not encourage making things to be repaired..

To stop Global Warming we must reduce the world wide carbon dioxide output to less than one tenth of what it is today.
We would have to stop all use of fossil suels worldwide to accomplish that.
If we stopped the use of all fossil fuels world wide that would destroy the economies of the world and cause world wide poverty, hunger and disease.
Even more dictators would seize power and start more wars. Dictators seize power in poor countries. If we stop the use of fossil fuels all of us will be very poor. Our lives will become very miserable.
As bad a Global Warming is, the cure for Global Warming is even worse.

Mr Jello is right. We can and we are. We do need to work harder at it.
Your numbers on the temperature rise are way too high. It's a lot slower than that, about .02 degrees a year right now.
http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/new_Fig.A.lrg.gif
Still, even a 2-3 degree rise will cause major environmental damage. We can hold that down.
Hundreds of scientists and economists have developed a practical and affordable plan. The plan mostly is to reduce fossil fuel use, by a variety of strategies. That's clearly a good idea, no matter what. Details:

Oh we are. There is an entire army of Greenie Mother Teresas out there who are the most intelligent people in the world. They are more than happy to tell the rest of us what we can and cannot do, and how we should think. They want to dictate every aspect of our lives. Imagine how wonderful it could be, once they do away with that nasty old freedom that we thought was so nice.

The problem is, that many people want to help; but the government and the officials are to lazy to get involved in it! It's sad, really. In North America, people started recycling- but in other countries, nobody cares! Also, people are lazy, and like to do things simple. For a 10 min. ride by bike, people will take the car!
