Thousands of Hispanics have fled the Tulsa, Okla., area in the shadow of a looming state law that limits benefits and mandates deportation for illegal aliens, according to a report from KTUL television in Tulsa.

The state of Oklahoma recently approved a new law that requires deportation for illegal aliens who are arrested, and limits benefits and jobs to those individuals. The report said in East Tulsa, where a community of Hispanics has grown over recent years, there's been a sudden drop in population.

Business owner Simon Navarro has been in business there 11 years, and said the tough law has chased away 30 percent of the state's Hispanic population.

"Two months ago I heard 25,000 Hispanics have left Oklahoma," he told the station. "They are leaving. A lot have already left.

"People are leaving," he said. "They're scared of the sheriff."

A spokesman for Tulsa's Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Francisco Trevino, said he believes the law – and its results – will hurt restaurants, construction companies and other service corporations such as lawn care. "They do everything we don't want to do," he said.

Homebuilders also have expressed concerns.

"Sitting here today I understand it's about rounding up criminals, and illegals," said Paul Kane. "But, the Hispanics are fleeing Oklahoma because they think an anti-Hispanic environment is being created."

However, authorities are making their preparations for a full enforcement of the law when it takes effect in November
"They do everything we don't want to do," he said.
As he dreaded the FACT that the days of the availability of ultra-cheap labor, working in substandard conditions, without complaint "might" be coming to an end!

It's nice to see that someone is taking action. Sure, they pour a lot of money into the economy, but it's time that their free stay with all the great benefits comes to an end. That's great if you want to come to America, but become a citizen and pay taxes like everyone else. Our country is not a resource you can just use up. Stop looking for someplace better when you can stay where you are and work on building a better life there.

Labor tends to move from where it is not needed to where it is.

Actually, this may be an idea. Require illegal aliens who wish to legalize to live in places where their labor is needed. I suspect there are far too many near the southern border and too few near the few remaining manufacturing centers.

A local tax on their income (if it does not violate treaties) might be an answer. Cities who do not want them could impose a high tax rate and those who do could impose a lower rate. That will move the labor where it is needed.

when is it going to happen in my neighborhood??

It's really laughable they say "an anti-hispanic environment is being created", when all the cities and states are doing is to enforce the laws that are supposed to be enforced in the first place. With the help of corporate lobbiests and pro-illegal law makers, the illegals came to believe that they could do anything they please to get what they want at the expenses of law abiding and tax paying citizens and legal immigrants.

How many legal Hispanics have suffered from this law you didn't mention that my guess would be none so the ones that are fleeing are either illegal in which i say great hopefully they flee all the way home or they are illegal supporters in which case i say good they can go to

It's so laughable when they say businesses will fail. If that were true then they should just let the law stand and the businesses fail, so they can point it out.

Unfortunately for them, it's not true, and life will go on without them. This makes them desperate to stop the law, we'll have proof that things will improve.

Proof Positive that attrition through enforcement works!!!

I would take it one step further. I would offer them one more freebie on the taxpayer dime. I would offer them an all expense paid, one way ticket, to the "sanctuary" city of their choice. Better yet, let's offer them a bonus to go to Massachussets, home of Teddy Kennedy, the amnesty king. Wonder how long he would stay in office once the people of Massachussets had to feel the pain of their Senators actions.

There was no problem created by them leaving Mexico, the illegals couldn't get to the USA by legal means, or just don't care about law, so why would anyone miss them?

Even sanctuary cities are coming under fire, with the execution style slayings in Newark.
Schools still out and the buses are vacant, couldn't we just give them a ride home to Mexico?

They are either going home or to areas in the US that are not enforcing immigration laws. If we enforce immigration laws and stop coddling illegal immigrants nationwide, illegals will self-deport.

They do everything we don't want to do," is the biggest lie.

They didn't go far just to another state. All states should do as Oklahoma has done and get the U.S. back on track.
