isn't that something you work on every minute of every day until the day you die?

As an Atheist I'm not looking for a debate....I've just always been curious how that works....thank you for your answers.

As a Catholic, I would have to agree with you, however I am not condemning people for believing they are saved...I don't know much about Protestantism, so I am sure someone will school me and that is OK, but I know that as a Catholic, Christ opened the doorway for me to be able to go to Heaven, after the Fall, Heaven was closed to everyone. In order to get to Heaven, a person has to accept that through Christ's death and suffering on the cross, he took the brunt of our sins and made it so we can get into Heaven again. Yes, we are responcible to work toward Heaven every day of our life if we want to get there. The way that we do is by living a life that shows God that we want to go to Heaven and be with him...we don't just get a pass because we tell people that we believe in Him on one hand, then go live our lifes however we want with the other. We have to profess our love for him with our words and our actions together.

No being saved is a gift. Once you're saved it's a wrap. All that is required after that is living a Godly life to be a testimony to others. There's a verse that says "if you acknowledge me before man I will acknowledge you before the father" so that's suggesting we DO tell others that we have been saved by His grace, and how. It's not prideful or presumptuous based on it being a GIFT, not achieved by our own works.
Hope this helps, have a great day! =)

Because God has given us a 'test' in the book of 1 John, which we can use to know, beyond a doubt, whether or not we are truly saved. Truly regenerated. Truly spiritual.
And yes, you are right. It is something that we MUST keep working at. EVERY day. We must die to self-will, and do that which God wills. We must press on toward Christ, meaning that we MUST do the work of the Father, which is in heaven.

Excellent question. Starred it for future reference. Although you are an unbeliever, God bless you. May His truth find you before the end.

You aren't saved by good works or deeds. You can't do enough good to work your way into heaven because we all sin. You are saved by accepting Christ and his sacrifice on the cross. When you accept Christ as your Savior you are immediately saved from hell. And when christians say they are saved, it is more of a testament to what He did rather than saying "I'm better than you." It's not meant to be a prideful statement but more of a statement of gratitude.

Because God told us we are saved through Jesus Christ. Where is the "pride & presumption" in that?

no mortal person is qualified to speak for god to say if a person is saved or not so all people who believe they are saved are just barking up the wrong tree like a wild dog
