I'm sure he'll recover from the swat on the hand just be sure that it was precipitated by his behavior and not from anything that may be going on with you. By the way, where have you been, and how did your mother manage to fracture her foot?

Although I'm not an advocate of hitting, you only hit him on the hand.
Remember that he is only 15, and going through a trouble time. What were you like at that age? I know I was a handful.
Just try to be understanding, but also be firm with him. Let him know that there are consequences for his actions.

UGH! I'm an only child, so my first thought was to RUN!! The other is to go to Welfare Dept and try to get nursing care for your mother, and Foster care for your brother!! BUT, you're probably too hooked on him ("naughty but the apple of my eye.") and probably doomed to taking care of him the rest of YOUR life! BUT, if you do that, he won't have a ghost of a chance to learn to take care of HIMSELF, let alone take responsibility for himself!! Meanwhile, your OWN IMMEDIATE FAMILY--your child, is suffering second-place!! No matter how good you are, your brother has learned to rely on YOU and no doubt sees your children as competition. He is old enough to get a parttime job, finish school and get himself set up for being responsible for the rest of his OWN life!! OR, you'll ALL be living on peanuts for life. ---Sorry to be so pessimistic, BUT, I've seen babied kids never grow up!

Never let a new flower to be spoiled. Talk to him about his craziness in a friendly manner. Then make him feel the after effect of naughtiness. Make him feel how much do you love him and what you expect from him. Just make him feel. If he can feel it, he will not return naughtiness for love.

Elder sister is always a 'sister and mother' to younger kids. Discharge your duties accordingly. Hitting kills love.
