I was thinking of reuniting with my ex-husband. I was talking to an elderly friend. She recommended that I don't because my ex-husband was abusive and controlling. So, I ended up not moving to another state to be with my ex-husband

Well, I just found out that this elderly friend was telling others that "I will never find anyone because I did not go back to my ex-husband." In other words, who would marry me?

This elderly friend used to tell me to be strong and not go back and these were "tests" for me to learn to take a stand.

Now, she says that I will never find anyone. I have stopped talking to her.

Some people are so gossipy. I guess that I just have to ignore it.

people like this have miserable lives. She probably has nothing exciting going on in her own life. I'd do what you have done, stop talking to her. You will find someone, and that person will hopefully treat you better. Live and learn. Gossip is nasty- don't let it get you down...people are like that everywhere you go. Move on and have a great life.

It's a shame that some people never find anything better to do.
You might let her know you were hurt by her gossip, and that's why you don't feel comfortable visiting with her any longer. Hopefully, that will make an impact on her.

Many insecure people feel better about themselves when they tear others down. Naturally, they cannot say these things to your face but have to go behind your back. Apparently your REAL friends have clued you in to what is really happening. Cherish those who are honest and true to you.

these kinds of people are usually the ones who have nothing else to occupy their minds; an idle mind is indeed the devil's playground...so they delve into other people's concerns and derive satisfaction from that. you're right, the best thing to do would be to ignore it and just learn from it.

You are right.

Ignore and avoid, that's my motto. Kick those negative, nasty people out of your life as much as possible; dealing with them only on a "have-to" basis, limited and brief.
